This exquisitely crafted screen hails from the mid-nineteenth century, crafted for a home in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Crafted from elm wood, its four panels fold to form a concertina shape, each comprising of three sections: small upper, large middle carved through with intricate lattice work and the bottom sections in relief. The craftsmanship of this Chinese Antique Screen is outstanding, with two principal figures in the center surrounded by a geometrical design, connected with joinery methods like mortise and tenon, as well as floral spacers. Representing several deities, the top center is composed of two males and two females. The bottom part is decorated with reliefs of other lucky creatures like a dragon, a phoenix and a 'kylin'. This beautiful antique screen is an ideal room divider for producing a sophisticated and flexible private area. Its lightweight design makes it easily movable, enabling it to be repositioned as desired within any room and can also be used as a stylish dressing screen within a bedroom.
