Human beings are capable of accomplishing great feats, even with the most daunting of challenges. Creating a Transbay tube, for high speed trains, that sits at the bottom of the San Francisco Bay, was one of them. An additional challenge was to create it durable enough to survive in a region that's prone to seismic fits. It's strength was put to the test in 1989, during the Loma Prieta earthquake.
