Honmaru Goten is the only remaining structure from Kawagoe castle which was originally built in 1457. Because of the relationship between the Tokugawa and Kawagoe, Kawagoe-jo was an important castle during the Edo period. It was also a particularly important to Ieyasu as the northern defense point of Edo. The Honmaru Goten itself has stood here since 1848 when it functioned as the lord's palace.
