Designed as a place of reflection by Indonesian architect Ridwan Kamil, the 2,500-square-meter four-story Aceh Tsunami Museum was officially opened in 2009. The design concept was inspired in part by the “house on stilts” structure, a common feature of local housing, particularly on the coast, to combat flooding.
