A Timber Frame kit building crafted to your needs! The customized frame comes ready to assemble, with all joints cut. This frame can be put together in a day as part of a traditional barn raising. The frame primarily shown here is a typical project of a building kit crafted using traditional post and beam construction. This is a style of wood framing that was widely used up until the introduction of stud framing. It makes for a strong, sturdy building. In the 8’ x 12’ saltbox frame illustrated, 6’’ x 6’’ beams were used for the main supports, with 4’’x 4’’ and 4’’ x 6’’ used for braces and plates. All joinery is wood to wood joints, mainly different variations on the mortice and tenon, and also with laps, dovetails and similar joints where appropriate. Joints are pegged with hardwood pegs. Braces are morticed into the frame throughout and, matched with the stoutness and weight of the beams, makes for a very sturdy building. Beams used are white pine, which is lightweight, but strong and easy to work. It is also available in relatively clear lengths for structural purposes. I saw the beams myself, or have them sawn locally, depending on workload, log availability and the need to adhere to any special details in preparation process. In timber framing, the building consists of several main assemblies that exist independently of each other: The sills and floor joists, which are laid first. The “bents”, which are each of the H- shaped assemblies consisting of two posts and a cross beam The top plates, or horizontal beams upon which the rafters rest Braces throughout the frame, of sufficient number and location hat racking is prevented in any direction. The roof framing, often rafters in smaller buildings and trusses in larger ones Any nailers or door/window frames, which are non- load bearing. To order such a kit frame, simply provide me the information for the building you have in mind, such as size, height, roof style, and any special features and I will provide a quote. As part of this process, I draw the plans for your approval, make the kit and arrange delivery. Any size frame could be made- it is the same concept for a large building and a small one. I can address code/zoning/permitting issues as needed. I can also arrange shipping if needed, or simply load all components on a trailer to be picked up. For a quote, free to send a sketch of your idea and we can move forward to completion of your building! The price listed for this frame is to provide a basic idea on cost for a 8’ x 12’ frame. Photos are show from three different frames during the construction or dry fitting process, to provide an idea as to the variations in joints and styles.
