EverythingTiny - Egg cartons make surprisingly convincing miniature stonework! Cut the flat sections of a paper-pulp egg carton into small rectangles. For a more natural stone look, gently shave or roughen the freshly cut edges instead of leaving them perfectly straight. Glue the pieces onto a cardboard base in staggered rows, leaving narrow gaps between them for the grout. For the slate coloring, make thin acrylic washes using yellow ochre, black and blue mixed separately with water. Start mainly with the ochre, then add small amounts of black and blue while the washes are still wet. Letting the colors blend naturally gives each stone slightly different tones. Once dry, seal everything with matte Mod Podge, PVA glue or another water-based sealer. This is important because it protects the painted stones during grouting. For the grout, press dry Plaster of Paris into the narrow gaps, brush away the excess, then use a slightly damp paper towel to clean the remaining powder from the stone surfaces. Wear a dust mask when working with the dry powder. Finally, dry-brush the stones with a little cream-colored acrylic paint. It catches the raised texture of the egg-carton pulp and makes the “stone” texture stand out. Cheap cardboard, but a pretty convincing miniature stone wall or floor
