The Tibetan Cherry (Prunus serrula) has Gorgeous Shiny Red Mahogany Colored Bark, which Peels Away in Bands with Age. It’s a Great Choice for Adding a Touch of Drama in Winter, and is Valuable for the Rest of the Year Too. In Spring, it Bears Bowl-Shaped White Flowers Just Before the Leaves Emerge, which are Followed by Small Cherries in Summer. In Autumn, it's Green Leaves turn Yellow before they Fall. They will Typically grow to 20-30’ tall & will flower best in full sun. Also preferring moist, well-drained, loamy soils. Provide good air circulation to reduce the risk of disease. This tree does not tolerate poorly drained soils. Zones 5-8 Tibetan Cherry Germination: 1) Rub the outside shell with rough grit sandpaper to scarify, & soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. 2) Place inside of a zip lock bag filled with moist vermiculite, or peat moss. Place inside the fridge for 60 days to cold stratify. Periodically check to ensure they do not dry out, also being sure not to over wet them. Just slightly moist. 3) Use a heated propagator to keep the soil at 75 degrees F, and sow them no more than 1/4 inch deep, in a well draining seed starting mix. 4) Expect germination for some within 3-4 weeks, but don't toss any out that do not sprout early as some take longer, and can take up to 8 weeks to sprout.
