My inspiration for this valentine comes from an antique sailor's valentine which was a gift to Queen Mary, and is now in the Victoria and Albert museum in London. The earliest sailor's valentines were made in England before the craft was exported to the Barbados and taught to the natives there. No, they were never made by sailors, but purchased by sailor's as souvenirs. This one features a shell wreath on seafoam green silk. 12". The box is handcrafted of exotic zebra wood.
