Tonquin Trail *** Please note these temporary trailhead closures: via the Tofino Community Hall - closed until December 2023 via Peterson Road / Leighton Way - opening late September 2022 It’s a trail and a beach, and it’s right in town. Less than one kilometre from the village centre, this gravel trail starts at the Tofino Community Hall, winding through rainforest to Tonquin Beach, Third Beach and Middle Beach. Along the way are many points of interest and ocean view opportunities. The trail network includes a closed loop trail and 3km of gravel walking trails. It's recommended you visit at low tide to take full advantage of enjoying the whole beach. Distance: 3 kilometres plus 800 metres of boardwalk and stairs leading from Tonquin Beach to Tonquin Beach Road. Some highlights: The Maze lookout, perched above Templar Channel with views of Wickaninnish Island and the site of the wreck of the Tonquin. Tiny Third Beach, which feels like a secret discovery. All of Tonquin Beach is a highlight! Bordered by rock formations that form cave-like entrances, it’s a favourite for sunbathing and relaxing. And the latest section leading to Middle Beach.
