Bear Wood, Berkshire, was designed by Robert Kerr and built in 1865-74 for John Walter, chief proprietor of 'The Times'. It had 'fireproof' construction, a heating apparatus, gas lighting, 22 w.c.'s and five bathrooms. In 1919 it became a school and was renamed Bearwood College.
