It's safe to say we have an ocean obsession in our house. Thanks to their Octonauts obsession, they can identify moray eels, sea anemones, and sperm whales on sight. Yes, really! I had hoped to do a couple of ocean crafts for our Octonauts birthday party, but ran out of time planning...so we just made pipe cleaner sea anemones (tutorial coming soon). A Paper Plate Fish Aquarium Preschool Craft was my second idea, so I gathered up the supplies to make them yesterday afternoon when we were in need of a little break in the monotony of playing with toys. Paper Plate Fish Aquarium Craft Supplies Needed: -Ocean Blue Paper Plate (ours were conveniently leftover from Addie's Owl Party) -White Beans -Googly Eyes -Paper Fish (I cut mine with my Silhouette but you could find a template online, draw your own, or even use stickers) -Green Pipe Cleaners (one per plate is probably enough) -Glue (I found the bottle worked well for the beans, pipe cleaners, and eyes, but we used the stick for the fish) 1. Glue Beans at the bottom of the plate to represent the aquarium (or ocean) floor. Lincoln (age 4) wanted to glue each bean individually with a dot of glue. For Addie (age 2), I just squeezed out a bunch and let her toss handfuls of beans on it, then shook off the excess. 2. Cut Pipe Cleaners into small pieces and glue above the beans. In this case, we were using them as seaweed, so they were green. You could do any color, though, and call it coral or an anemone! 3. Use Glue Stick to attach fish to the plate, then glue eyes on top. Both kids wanted to do this part all by themselves. That's it! A really simple, cheap way to add something to a preschool ocean unit, or just make at home on a rainy day. Hope you enjoy!
