An original 1930s graphite drawing, Vera Furneaux-Harris RMS, Children on the Sofa. An enchanting 1930s pencil illustration by miniaturist and illustrator Vera Furneaux-Harris RMS. This drawing is likely a study for a children's book illustration. On fairly thin Reeves & Sons Ltd sketchbook paper. This drawing is one of a collection of works by Vera Furneaux-Harris RMS that we have for sale, which showcase the artist's talent for depicting young children. Her closely observed drawings capture, with great tenderness, the universal expressions and physiques of preschool age children absorbed in everyday activities. There is great charm in the what is now vintage 1930s clothing and bobbed hairstyles. But perhaps an even greater appeal lies in the evident timelessness of childhood behaviours that these drawings represent. Vera Furneaux-Harris RMS (b.1904) was a miniaturist, portrait painter and illustrator. She was born in Ross in Hertfordshire and studied at Maidstone School of Art, at the Slade and in Paris. She exhibited at the Royal Academy and also at the Royal Society of Miniature Painters (RMS), of which she was a member. Some buckling to the paper as shown. The picture may have other minor imperfections such as slight marks, toning, foxing, creasing or pinholes, commensurate with age. Please see photos for detail.
