This resource provides all the components your students need to practice finding the area of composite figures. This can often be a challenging skill to explain and teach to students, but with an engaging karate theme, your students will love it! This resource includes three parts: Part 1: Guided Practice (small group intervention or reteaching) Part 2: Independent or Partner Practice (task cards) Part 3: Quick-check assessment Standards addressed: TEKS 3.6(D) decompose composite figures formed by rectangles into non-overlapping rectangles to determine the area of the original figure using the additive property of area (Readiness Standard). CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.7.D Recognize area as additive. Find areas of rectilinear figures by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts, applying this technique to solve real-world problems. The Math Intervention Series was created based on a need for quick, easy prep activities that could be used with students who need additional practice in key math skills. It is designed to be used with a small group during a guided math workshop or tutoring session. The individual components of this resource (guided practice, independent or partner practice, and assessment) are designed for a specific time frame – about 15 to 20 minutes per activity. This resource can be used in one day or spread across several days. This resource includes: Resource information, including when the resource is used and teacher prep of materials (if needed) Small-group lesson plans, word problems, and answer keys Independent task cards for math centers Quick-check assessment This resource prints well in black and white or color. I encourage you to check the thumbnails and preview to see more of what is included! Thank you!
