Hand made wooden beach cruiser, functional art bicycle. Winner of BEST OF SHOW and BEST MIXED MEDIA awards of the 2014 Western Design Conference in Jackson, Wyoming. Designed and built without the aid of computer software or use of CNC machining. I am a former bike racer, bike fitter, and lifelong woodworker. The bike is fully hand built with only the use of hand tools and hand held power tools. It is being offered as functional art , but it is a mechanically fully functional piece. I used laminated plywood to create the frame. The front fork is a steel fork encapsulated with the same plywood. The read wheel dropouts are hand fabricated steel. A rear wooden disc is installed on the rear wheel hub for visual effect. The front wheel has a fully functional cable activated AVID disc break, the only braking system on the bike. Aluminum Surly crank. The top tube houses a storage compartment for a wallet , cell phone, or whatever you want to put in it. The under side of the bike has surface laminated carbon fiber bonded to it with marine grade epoxy, mainly for looks, but it gives the frame additional strength as well. The wheels are black anodized aluminum with beach cruiser tires. The bike sits on a custom fabricated aluminum kick stand. It is extremely comfortable to sit on, the frame is sized for a person 5'8" to 6'8" approximately. The ntire frame is encapsulated with multiple layers of marine grade epoxy, essentially turning the outer layer of the bike frame into plastic. The finish of the frame is multiple layers of sprayed gloss marine varnish, which gives the whole piece an incredible look that immediately catches the eye. This piece took approximately 400 hours to build from design to complete finish of installing and fitting all parts. If someone is seriously interested, I am more than happy to answer any questions that may arise. The bike sits on its own custom display box that is included in the sale.
