Ooh, Tiffany Blue, 12 x 12 Last Saturday, my friend, Brenda, played Christmas music on the piano at Huff Harrington Fine Art, while I did a small painting demo. The Huffingtons served a bit of wine and some fresh cookies and it was a fun afternoon. The idea was for me to paint a Tiffany box, so Ann and Meg got me a gift from the namesake store here in Atlanta in time for me to have on hand for the event. I hadn't looked inside yet, because I wanted to paint it first. Then I couldn't remove/change the ribbon till I finished the painting, which I did yesterday...so here we are... below is the wrapped box, and below that, the contents! I was able to approximate the Tiffany blue color pretty well with my limited palette (ultramarine blue, cadmium lemon, cadmium red medium, and titananium zinc white, in case you were wondering)....I did have some cerulean blue on hand just in case! Inside was a sparkly crystal votive, complete with candle, which is already now in use...Behind is the painting, in a nice frame by my friend, Munroe d'antignac, of d'antignac Custom Frames (www.dcframes.com).

Gustav Klimt was one of the first artists that I discovered on my own… making his work all the more special… personal to me. I was enthralled with the decorative or ornamental elements of his work, his use of unconventional formats, and of course… as a horny 20-year-old… the eroticism of his paintings. -Portrait of Sonja Knips -Judith -Garden with Sunflowers -Danaë -Attersee With time, I put Klimt on the back-burner and rarely thought about… let alone looked at… his work. When I returned to painting figuratively some 6 or 7 years ago I found I could no longer ignore him. A fascination with pattern and decoration, fashion or costume, the use of gold leaf in Byzantine and Early Renaissance painting, tall narrow formats, and the female nude were all elements that I shared in common with Klimt. I cannot deny that Klimt ranks among the ten or so artists who have been the most influential upon my own work. -The Three Ages of Woman ******************************************************************************************* Gustav Klimt was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His primary subject was the female body and his works were often noted for their use of allegory and the frank eroticism… quite daring for the time. Klimt was born in Baumgarten, near Vienna, July 14, 1862. His father, Ernst Klimt the Elder, was a gold engraver. Gustav’s two younger brothers, Ernst and Georg, went on to enjoy successful careers as artists. Klimt initially studied Architectural Painting at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. Klimt and his brother Ernst studied under Hans Makart, Vienna’s foremost history painter of the time. The two brothers and their friend, Franz Matsch, began working together and by 1880 they had received numerous commissions as a team that they called the “Company of Artists”. They also helped their teacher in painting murals in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Klimt began his professional career painting interior murals and ceilings in large public buildings on the Ringstraße, including the Vienna Opera and the Kunsthistorische -Steps of the Vienna Opera -The Kunsthistorische In the early 1890s Klimt met Emilie Louise Flöge who, notwithstanding the artist’s relationships with other women, was to be his companion until the end of his life. His painting, The Kiss, is thought to be an image of them as lovers. -Emilie Flöge - Portrait of Emilie Flöge -Woman in Scarf and Hat (Emilie Flöge) -Portrait of a Woman (Emilie Flöge?) In 1892 Klimt’s father and brother Ernst both died, and he had to assume financial responsibility for his father’s and brother’s families. The tragedies also affected his artistic vision and soon he would move towards a new personal style. In 1894, Klimt was commissioned to create three paintings to decorate the ceiling of the Great Hall of the University of Vienna. His three paintings, Philosophy, Medicine, and Jurisprudence (destroyed during WWII) were criticized for their radical themes and material, and were called “pornographic

You guys have been begging for more non-holiday themed Seek Its... so today we are delivering a couple more!! New today... "Just for Girls" and "Just for Boys"! With our collection now including 16 editions - bet you are wondering which one is the most popular! YOUNG WOMEN of course! It's great for camp, a weekly activity (or even to play while waiting for everyone to arrive) + makes a super fun gift for incoming beehives or birthdays! If you are new to Lisa's Seek It Games, they are simple to make and fun to play. Each card has one (and only one) match... each player just needs to find their match to the center card first! It's a fast game and fun to play multiple rounds... works with 2 or more players, there are 55 cards. An instruction card is included. Also, I get lots of questions about printing, print settings - you can read this tutorial here for more tips on that. Once it's printed, you COULD painstakingly cut with scissors, but these are 3" round cards, perfect for punching with a 3" round craft punch! I laminate my cards (for durability) after punching, then trim with scissors. My punch won't punch through lamination (I prefer 5ml pouches) - nor do I want to dull it by trying. It takes me about 30 minutes to trim them all - so I have my girls help me while we watch something funny on TV. My FAVORITE way store the games are in these cute round tins with window lids - they fit the card and the stack perfectly!! I also love the tins because they protect my cards (that I spent so much time punching and trimming)! Or, for a less expensive option, 4x6 organza bags work great and are just as cute.
