The Astolat Dollhouse Castle costs more than many full-sized houses. The 800 pound, 9 foot tall museum-quality miniature house, with 29 rooms and a wizard’s tower, is priced at $8.5 million. The structure was inspired by the fantasy castle ‘Astolat’ in Tennyson’s poem Lady of the Shallot and took 13 years to complete (1974 - 1987). Miniature artist Elaine Diehl supervised the building the castle with the help of many artists from all over the world. Why is this dollhouse so expensive? Approximately 30,000 high quality miniatures , made from real gold, sterling silver, and other exquisite materials like lapis lazuli, come with the house. The rooms are tastefully decorated with 10,000 of these pieces at any given time, including miniature furniture like tables, chairs, shelves, and vintage cots, miniature artwork and decor pieces, and lighting, all made by renowned artists from around the world. This extravagant home has a weaponry room, a dovecote, a wizard’s tower, and an appraised value of more than $2,000 per square inch—all good hints that it’s not a traditional abode but a 9-foot-tall miniature called the Astolat Dollhouse Castle. Built by the artist Elaine Diehl around 1980 and decorated with 10,000 teeny-tiny items, the $8.5 million dollhouse is the world's most expensive and will be on display from Thursday through Dec. 8 at the Shops at Columbus Circle, in Manhattan’s Time Warner Center.

Surrounded by a moat-turned-water feature, Le Château de Vigny, based just outside Paris, was first built in 1504 for Georges d'Amboise, the Prime Minister to King Louis XII.
Titania's Palace was constructed by the English painter and officer Sir Neville Wilkinson from 1907 to 1922. Sir Wilkinson's daughter Gwendolyn claimed to have seen a fairy running under the roots of a tree, in the woods beside their home at Mount Merrion House. She was convinced that they lived in holes in the ground and deserved to have a fine house in which to live instead! The palace consists of 18 rooms and salons, which contain hand-carved mahogany furniture. There are 3000 tiny works of art and miniatures from around the world on display inside the palace. The palace used to be displayed at Legoland, Denmark, but has found a new home in Egeskov Castle in Denmark now. There is a miniature replica of Titania's Palace called Tara's Palace that is on display in Malahide.
You may remember John Farrier's post about the Bonsai Tree Castle, which was created by Japanese artist Takanori Aiba. Well Takanori's art certainly doesn't stop there, and would you believe that the rest of his miniature worlds (structural sculptures) are even more fantastic than the tree castle?! With a style ripped straight from mythology and every minor detail accounted for, these tiny kingdoms look like a great place for fairy folk to call home. Link --via Booooooom!...
