About The Artwork This sculpture made in Terracotta belongs to the series called Sequences. All the pieces are based on the same cylindrical shape made on a lathe. It is a series of elements that follow one after the other and are related to each other. As I make the pieces I place them one after the other in such a way that they fit together and deform each other, creating ellipses and organic shapes of different sizes. It transmits me the idea of something vegetal, alive, organic. Faces are distorted in extraordinary ways in this sculptor's surreal work. Perhaps they are visualizations of internal struggles. What do you think?
Wondrously detailed worlds emerge from busts of youthful women in clay sculptures by Chinese artist Yuanxing Liang. Ambling trees, bridges, and temples emerge from the figures’ hairline, fusing realism and fantasy in smooth resin. Despite their complex design, Liang occasionally creates small editions of his sculptures. The artist is a gradute of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. You can see more of his intricately wrought fantasy worlds on Weibo. More
Chiseled doric columns, ornate arches, vaulted ceilings, staircases, and tiny sculptures within a sculpture—all of this fits into miniature architectural spaces that resemble ancient and medieval ruins and sacred architecture carved into raw marble and stone. These historical sculptures are brought to life by an internationally acclaimed British sculptor, Matthew Simmonds (previously here on Bored Panda), who currently lives and works in Denmark.
