Hello Everyone! Just another quick post, as I have company coming in a bit! We read the very fun book "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" today, and again I wanted to celebrate our favorite author, Laura Numeroff, by doing a literature response including her use of compound words! The kids are so tuned in to compound words, they are finding them everywhere!! Of course because of the title of this book, we had to do something with cupcakes and compound words. So we slipped into our "Smart Cookie Bakery aprons again and baked up some wonderful "Cupcakes full of Compound Words! We used some striped scrapbook paper for the cup and scrunched tissue paper for the frosting. The sprinkles were the perfect place to write some of those compound words the kids have been finding! When the kids were finished, they had to read their "sprinkles" to me and a friend and then Tah Dah!...a cherry (red sticker) was added on top!! I think the kids did a great job on these and I know they have extended their knowledge of compound words...in a yummy way!! Way to go, guys!!! Have a sweet evening! Stop by again for a peek at some Earth Day Activities!! Joyfully! Nancy
So this week, we've been hitting hard core our author of the month, Laura Numeroff. (It's also Mo Willems, and I'll show y'all that stuff another time!) We've been reading all her "circle books" this week as a basis for our reading, writing, and math lessons. Yesterday we read: (which actually goes really well with our phonics skill this week - hard and soft G and C) And did cupcake fractions!! (This is NOT in my Laura Numeroff pack) They traced out the frosting and bottom, and then I used a hole puncher and punched out a LOT of holes...I had A TON left over because I'm SO horrible at estimating! haha!! Really... truly...just awful at estimating! lol Anyway, if you'd like tracers and the paper to glue to the bottom, click HERE I didn't have the tracers with me (I left them at school), so I quickly drew something up for y'all. It's not perfect, but it'll get ya the tracers you need! ha! I left the writing page blank so you younger grades can just have the kiddos count the sprinkles - obviously you can have them put as many as you want them to! If you download - please leave some lovin'! :) Hope y'all had a Wonderful Wednesday!!

My little girl turned 5, so this week we are celebrating! We read "If You Give A Cat and Cupcake". And played this great reading comprehension game about the book! She matched capital and lowercase letter cupcakes... This day, she insisted that she would start with letter "z" and work backward! Which was hard; therefore, she got very frustrated... So, the next day, she thought of a new technique. She would start with letter "A', and then go backward...umm, interesting. When asked why she just didn't do it the "correct" way...she answered, "Mom, that's too easy!" Practicing writing the alphabet in lower case letters. Handout can be found here. Reviewing the letter "C" sound by playing this fun cupcake game, even Mac had fun playing! The cupcakes in the middle have picture cards on the inside, if the picture began with the letter "C" sound, then they could place it on their plate. However, if they chose a cupcake that was completely black inside without a picture, they had to place all their cupcakes back in the middle. The girls had a blast playing this game! I found this adorable cupcake sight word game! Izzie reviewed the sight words, "I, see, a" and was introduced to the sight words "is, this". Completing the cut and paste activity for her newest sight words "is" and "this". She is so proud of herself, when she is able to read the simple sentences...priceless! Sight word "is" cut and paste handouts...
