I had my ups and downs but over all I think I actually like weaving with mohair. It was definitely a change of pace from my normal weaving. My style is usually heavy with texture, so this was a challenge to make something lighter. Mohair is much more tacky then the yarns I usually weave with,
I get asked in my spinning classes " what do you do with hand spun art yarns?" I say " It is ART, you hang it up and and enjoy it!" BUT i also like to weave with my art yarns… if i use for weft i use my Saori looms, but if i want the art yarns in the WARP and also the WEFT i use my loom ashford rigid heddle loom buy here along with there exclusive freedom roller and i use the exclusive heddle size for the ashford looms in 2.5 size which fits my art yarns here are my two latest art yarn scarves what is this thing I have in my hand???? it is the new ASHFORD HANDI HANDLEin my Etsy shop. this brand new handle allows you to advance your cloth or warp beam easily if you have mobility issues with your hands,( which i do not but i still love the feel of this new tool and use all the time ) absolutely brilliant it comes in 2 sizes. smaller for the ashford sample it looms, and knitters looms, also a larger size for the ashofrd rigid heddle and table looms! love my ashford rigid heddle loom it is the only rh loom with the exra roller beam you can add called the freedom roller ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ after i wove the bright sparkly scarf i wove a guy art art scarf I strongly dislike all the clamps on all rigid heddle looms! so i use a Irwin med size bar clamp to hold the loom and to use in place of the stupid clamp and peg that are sent for warping. no more flying off peg disastrous episodes ! they are less then $10 at the hardware store the sucess is in part to the 2.5 heddle and the ashford freedom roller again which allows you to put more than a few yards on your ashforsd rh loom! \ soaked and drying in gingko leaves ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suzan drove down from Redding for a SAORI TRY IT CLASS CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO I love the saori C H60 LOOM click here ALL Saori looms have bulit in bobbin winders! and as a newer weaver Suzan absolutely adored weaving on the saori CH60 loom! She broiught a weaving she just finished to show me a hand spun while long rug! Length does not include tassels; it is only the woven part. If you order, e.g., 200 cm with tassels, it means your belt will be 200 cm + ca. 30 cm tassels = 230 cm in total. Width: 4 cm / 1.57 inch Colour: greens or custom colour combination; If you choose custom, let me know the colours for the pattern, background and stripe, as requested in the personalisation section. You will receive a picture with the wool samples I have available at the moment. Material: 100% New Zealand wool, processed and dyed in Lithuania Technique: threaded-in pattern, tablet weaving Historical inspiration: The simple pattern makes it appropriate for the reenactment of all periods when tablet weaving was used. About every 50 cm the pattern changes direction, it's visible in the pictures. Wash with care, hand wash only! What is this craft? Tablet (card) weaving is an ancient craft of making strong, narrow, decorative bands. In the past men and women wore tablet woven bands as belts, leg wraps, hair bands or garment trims. Today tablet woven bands are used in historical reenactment (from Celtic to late medieval Europe), SCA, LARP, folk costumes and all kinds of pagan, fantasy or Viking societies. They can also serve as handfasting cords, guitar straps, bag straps, bookmarks and many more. Custom orders Drop me a line if you would like to order a custom band. I weave all the bands myself and will be happy to discuss your ideas for colours, patterns, material etc. Worldwide shipping with tracking number. Images via Koron007 Centuries ago, fabric was a rare and precious commodity only the wealthy could afford. So people treasured old and worn-out pieces of clothing to recycle and reuse in order to make new clothes. Thus the sakiori was born. Sakiori comes from the word "saki" which means to tear up or rip and "ori" which means weave. Recycling old fabric remnants into sakiori weavings follows the Japanese indispensable concept of “mottainai” or not wasting precious cloth that can prolong the fabric’s useful life through recycling and reuse. Weaving all these remnants of fabric was immensely hard work back then, however very rewarding and worth the effort as clothing made from repurposed cotton was vastly warmer, softer, and more durable than the rough linens that could be made from Japan’s natural fibers. Sakiori was mostly used to make rugs and covers, but also clothes - mostly jackets and vests. Today, the technique is experiencing a resurgence as a "green", ethical and economical art form. Tablet weaving is fraught with trapdoors, little mistakes that are easy to make. This pre-weaving checklist may keep you from falling into one.

Ashford makes many different sizes and models or Rigid heddle looms but they are called different names, knitters loom, sample it loom , for example ..however their classic Rigid Heddle Loom size 32" is what i used to weave this hand spun art yarn throw. and it is just called rigid heddel loom . One of the reasons i love the this model is because it is the only model that you can attach on their FREEDOM ROLLER . a second front cloth beam that allows you to weave longer yardage on a rigid heddle loom ! the only manufaacturer to make such an amazing reasonable priced accessory allowing longer warps ( a draw back for rigid heddle looms is that you can not put very long or very bulky warps on them the Ashford freedom roller takes care of that .) WHERE TO BUY RIGID HEDDEL LOOMS IN MY 2ND ETSY SHOP CENTERINGWITHFIBER HERE Ashford rigid heddle looms come in a flat pack unfinished. i bought a can of deft semi gloss lacquer which was plenty for 2 coats for the loom and the freedom flyer and extra heddels. it dried to the touch in 15 minutes. HERE YOU SEE THE ASHFORD 16" RH LOOM AND THE ASHFORD 32" LOOMS WITH THE FREEDOM ROLLER SIDE BY SIDE NEXT TO EACH OTHER . i make loom bags that fit the ashford 32" looms as well as the saori piccolo looms SO WHEN MY 32"ASHFORD IN NOT IN USE I HAVE IT IN THIS LOOM BAG I MAKE AND AVAILABLE IN MY ETSY SHOP LOOM BAG INFO CLICK HERE Using my hand spun bulky art yarns and the 2.5 heddle I warped the full width of the 32' RH loom. beaming on threaded and starting to weave i use a glimakra ski shuttle for the wefts click here SKI SHUTTLES GLIDE OVER THE WARPS WITH OUT DRAG LIKE STICK SHUTTLES i use the ashford handi handles to advance my warps and for the cloth beam clogs. it really saves my hands and makes it so much eaiser ASHFORD HANDI HANDLE FOUND HERE ALL FINISHED WITH MY WEAVING YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH BULK THE FREEDOM ROLLER ALLOWS WITH NO PROBLEMS! time to cut it in half i simply sew 2 straight lines of straight stitch on my machine to secure …. the cut down the middle . GINGHER 8" SPRING LOADED SHEARS IN MY ETSY SHOP HERE soaked and hanging on the rail to dry IT IS SO WARM AND SNUGGLY AND IN USE ALMOST ALL THE TIME! i cut yarn and knotted it for the fringes that were on the cut ends you could also leave empty warp inbetween for woven in fringes but i was not sure i would have a long enough warp so i opted for tying on extra fringes when i was finished it worked out beautifully.
