I love hares, perhaps it is the Irish in me, as hares are revered in Ireland, seen as a communicator with the other world of the little people: faeries and leprechauns. But I really fell in love wi…
Hare, (genus Lepus), any of about 30 species of mammals related to rabbits and belonging to the same family (Leporidae). In general, hares have longer ears and longer hind feet than rabbits. While the tail is relatively short, it is longer than that of rabbits. The vernacular names hare and rabbit
Please indulge me as I upload a few more hare poses that were struck so conveniently for my camera as I sat in the car in state of high excitement and hands shaking. Camera control in those circumstances was not easy.

I guess I haven't posted any here, so this will be the first... I also have been into 1/6 scale figures and customizing them for about 5 years now I think. This rabbit inspired mecha isn't my first custom (I'll post those soon) but it's one of my favorites.

Photographer Andy Howard waited seven-and-a-half hours to capture the pictures of a mountain hare 'waving' and 'giggling' in the Cairngorms in the Scottish Highlands.
From my project based on the W. B. Yeats book ‘Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry’, this illustration is inspired by the story ‘The Witch Hare’. The tale tells of a person who shoots a hare. The hare immediately disappears but leaves behind a trail of blood. The trail is followed from the scene to a local woman’s house. She claims that the blood is hers and she had wounded her leg chopping wood. © Zara Picken 2013 www.zaraillustrates.com
When I photographed Stanley in 2012, I had no idea this little guy’s charm, smile and pooping on the studio floor would be the inspiration for a new collection of work. Photographing Stanley was the result of a failed negotiation with an animal trainer – I wanted to photograph a Wallaby they had, but could only afford the Donkey… And so it goes – with this fine ass, the Fairy Tale Animal series was born. Stanley lives happily in Sacramento and makes his keep by bringing smiles to those who visit. Be sure to check out the fun and brief behind the scenes video of this shoot in the side bar.
Today’s soft and cuddly Wonder of the Day promises to be a hare-raising look at an animal with four very lucky feet!
