Empyreal Empress Mask These masks look great on your wall or on your face! This wearable art is inspired by both traditional wood shaman masks and contemporary geometric art. The masks are made from layers of intricately laser cut birch plywood stacked and glued together. The eyes have dichroic acrylic lenses that reflect light but can easily be seen through with some of your peripheral vision limited. The mask is padded for comfort and is held on with a 3 point strap system. For the painting scheme we can do basically anything you want. Do you have any specific ideas of what colors you would like your mask custom painted? We can make it your favorite colors, or paint it to compliment the room that you will display it in. I can do anything you have in mind from muted natural tones to vibrant colors or flashy metallics, some glow in the dark, or holographic glitter effects. If you don't have anything in particular in mind I can come up with a fun color scheme for you! The LEDs I normally use for the mask are sound reactive, so if you are wearing it it will light up with your voice, or if it's on the wall it will jump to music playing. There are multiple sound activated patterns in addition to many other patterns and solid color options. You can switch between basic settings using a small controller on the back of the mask, or use the Bluetooth app to get even more options and settings. I power the mask with a cord running to a rechargable usb battery pack that the wearer of the mask keeps in their pocket for a long battery life and to avoid adding a heavy battery to the mask itself. You can also run the mask with a standard phone usb outlet adapter when it is being displayed on the wall. I will make a donation to plant a tree for each sculpture sold with One Tree Planted. Help fight deforestation by buying art! Photos by travel-weddings.com and gbk.photos Check out my full website for more detailed photos, larger sizes, and my full collection at: DanSchaubDesigns.com

Today, I’m going to be a bit global. I will excerpt from an American book and use ladies’ fashions from France and men’s fashions from England. That’s the beauty of being a lazy researcher with a blog. Enjoy! Belt Welt Hat First, I should mention that I'm pretty sure this is the most expensive skein of yarn I've ever purchased, and it was WORTH EVERY PENNY! So smooth, so wonderful to knit - seriously, I would take a bath in the stuff if I could afford it. Luckily, you don't have to use this luxurious of a yarn to make this pattern pop - any heavier weight worsted should do. But perhaps the best thing about this pattern is that it's a pretty simple knit that still yields a lot of graphic appeal. Or in other words, you won't have to put in a lot of work in order to end up with a hat that you'll be pleased with. Sizes: Small Adult (Large Adult) Yarn: Simplinatural by HiKoo by Skacel (40% Baby Alpaca, 40% Fine Merino Wool, 20% Mulberry Silk; 183 yards [167 meters]/100 grams); #098 Bright Blue – one skein (both sizes) The finish. Needles: one 16" circular needle in size US 6, one 16" circular needle in size US 8, one set of double pointed needles (dpns), also in size US 8 (one 16" circular needle in size US 7, one 16" circular needle in size US 9, one set of dpns, also in size US 9) Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker Gauge: 18 stitches = 4 inches on size 8 needles, 16 stitches = 4 inches on size 9 needles So let's get one thing straight, here. The only difference between the size small hat the large is needle size - if you want to make a small hat, use 6s and 8s. If you want a large hat, use 7s and 9s! And now that we've got that taken care of, using your smaller circular needle, cast on 90 stitches, place marker, and join in round. Then we'll knit the following ribbing row: Ribbing Row: * p1, k1; rep from * Knit this ribbing row until piece measures 4". And now, it's time to switch to your larger needles and the main pattern, which is Belt Welt from page 6 of Barbara G. Walker's A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, and goes as follows: Rows 1 - 4: knit Rows 5 - 8: * p4, k2 * Knit rows 1 - 8 four times, and then it's time to begin the decreases, which go as follows: Decrease Row 1: * k3, k2tog, ssk, k11 * (80 stitches) Decrease Row 2: * k2, k2tog, ssk, k10 * (70 stitches) You may want to switch to your dpns about now... Decrease Row 3: * k1, k2tog, ssk, k9 * (60 stitches) Decrease Row 4: * k2tog, ssk, k8 * (50 stitches) Decrease Row 5: slip first stitch from first dpn to last dpn (so, in effect, this will become the last stitch of the row rather than the first); then, * ssk, k1, p4, k1, k2tog * (40 stitches) Decrease Row 6: * ssk, p4, k2tog * (30 stitches) Decrease Row 7: * k1, (p2tog) twice, k1 * (20 stitches) Decrease Row 8: * k1, p2tog, k1 * (15 stitches) Decrease Row 9: * slip 2 together knitwise-k1-p2sso * (5 stitches) Clip tail of yarn, thread through final 5 stitches and pull tight. Thread to inside of hat and knot. Tuck in ends.
