If you've ever experienced the pain of a burnt frying pan, I bring good news!
You have probably read tons of advice on how to clean your iron, just as I have. I tried them ALL, but for some particular reason, none of them worked on my iron. My iron does not have the shiny surface that many others have. I gathered all of these attempts from Pinterest: I tried the vinegar & baking soda approach, and nothing. I tried the toothpaste approach, nothing. I tried the magic eraser, nothing. I tried the salt approach, nothing. I tried too many to mention. Everything failed! I got so desperate, I almost ruined my iron by trying other crazy ideas which did not work; ex: SOS pad, yes I got really desperate folks. Friends, I had lost hope until I tried this! Yes it is, a Tylenol. Who on earth would have thought? There is NO COATING on this tablet! If you try this at home, make sure to use pliers or metal tweezers to avoid getting your fingers burned. I rubbed carefully & used a small towel. I was pretty skeptical, I honestly did not think a little pill would do the trick... ...but it was truly magic! Good heavens, makes me wonder what's in that pill? This gunk was thick and not budging. I thought that I was going to have to live with gunk on my iron. People, I think I heard a choir of angels singing when the gunk was gone. Sorry that the clip is sideways. Now to clean the rest of the stain. What I did: 1. Set the iron to high heat setting, about 4 or 5. Make sure there is no water in it. 2. Get large Tylenol tablet the white kind with NO COATING, NOT gel. 3. Grab pliers or tweezers to hold pill and rub off gunk. 4. The pill will begin to shrink, use more if needed. 5. Wipe with damp towel excess gunk. 6. Done! You may have some remaining stain as mine did, just keep rubbing until it's all gone. ***NOTE*** Do not use any other tablet other than Tylenol to do this. Make sure that it does not contain any coating. I've had two readers tell me that they had a toxic smell occur, so make sure that you use the correct tablet.

We have very hard water where we live and because of this, we often get mineral deposits inside of our kettle. I have tried many different ways to clean a kettle, but none are as effective and quick as this one. Using vinegar to clean a kettle is probably one of the best vinegar cleaning hacks I have ever come across! It is so easy and fast. Before Cleaning This is what our kettle looked like before I cleaned it. Because I was doing a video on our YouTube channel about how to clean a kettle using vinegar, I let it get a little worse than we normally do. This is a few weeks of mineral build up. You can see the build-up along the bottom and onto the sides of our electric kettle. We have also used this method to clean our stainless steel kettle which we use for camping. The build-up is just a lot visible on this kettle because of the glass sides. Ater a few weeks of neglect, the mineral build-up will actually flake off in chunks and if we did not have a screen that filters the spout of our kettle, those flakes would end up in my tea. I try and stay on top of the build-up and clean our kettle once a week. How To Clean A Kettle This method is super simple. Open a bottle of vinegar and pour it into your kettle. Fill the kettle just above where the mineral deposits are and let sit. That is it. Depending on how much build-up you have, will depend on how long it will take for the vinegar to break through the minerals. I typically will soak our kettle once a week just to prevent a build-up on the inside. I put a small amount of vinegar into the kettle, just enough to cover the bottom. If there is only a little bit of mineral build-up then I can usually proceed to the next step after about 30 seconds. If there is a substantial amount of build-up, like in that picture, I prefer to turn the kettle on and let it boil for a minute or two. You can see the vinegar working and will know when it is all done. Once the build-up has been loosened from the bottom of the kettle, all you need to do is give the kettle a very good rinse. My husband is very sensitive to the smell of vinegar and, after a few rinses with hot water, he does not smell it at all. You also can not taste it after it has been rinsed thoroughly. And that, my friends, is how easy it can be to clean a kettle. The Big Reveal So what does the kettle look like after you clean it? I think it looks pretty awesome! If you are interested in our kettle, the model we have is the 1.7L glass electric kettle made by Hamilton Beach. We bought ours from Amazon about a year ago when our old kettle died. We are very pleased with it. The only criticism that we have of this kettle is a small one. If the lid is not pushed all the way down, it won’t automatically shut off. This is not a concern to us. We have just got into the habit of making sure we hear it click closed. Please visit this link if you want to check out our kettle and support our blog by purchasing through an affiliate link.
