I went hiking both Saturday and Sunday looking for moose or whatever I could find. I saw 12 moose Saturday and 13 moose Sunday. I worked some with this guy. He was pretty calm. So, I decided to try to get some shots of him walking into the camera. I got quite a few. He would get up to about 15-20 feet from me and then I would back off. He seemed fine with it. Didn't get aggressive. I wouldn't even think of trying it in about two weeks, after the rut starts. I had to go out an hour before sunrise to find them. The bulls in particular disappear into the heavy alders soon after sunrise. Problem with going out so early is the lighting. Very dark. It was also very overcast and misting rain. But, once I found them, I just stayed with this guy till he bedded down. At one time I had 8 moose that I could see all at the same time. Keeping track of that many can sometimes prove to get quite exciting. The cows often take exception if you get between them and the bull. Once the rut starts it gets really bad. They don't want anybody or anything up close to the bull they are with. Camera Settings: 160mm - 1/60 - ISO 400
Print of one of the biggest bull moose in Jackson Hole performing the Flehmen response during mating season. Here he is in the sagebrush field against the backdrop of the snowy Teton range. I made this image in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park during the fall moose mating season. The print is available as a Matte Fine Art Print, Glossy Fine Art Print, Aluminum/Metal Print or Canvas Gallery Wrap. * Matte Fine Art Paper is the most popular paper used for fine art prints: it provides accurate color, realistic saturation, archival value of 100 years for in home display and 200 years in dark storage. Frame is available, non glare glass is included. * Glossy Fine Art Paper uses a patented combination of film and laminate layers resulting in a striking metallic shine. Metallic Paper has a Standard Archival Value of 100 years in home display; 200 years in dark storage. Frame is available, non glare glass is included. * Metal/Aluminum prints use 1/16'' inch of aluminum sheet and include a 3/4 inch float mount, ready to hang. * Canvas Gallery Wrap uses the giclee printing process on fine art canvas material, then wrapped around a 1.5" wooden stretcher frame with wire or saw tooth mounting attached (ready to hang right out of the box). - Q&A * How fast is your shipping? This blog will celebrate each new day in a variety of ways - mostly art, some photos and comics.
This is a vertical version of a scene I posted earlier. I like the background better since you can see down the bay a little farther and shows the full clump of trees down on the point which is actually named "Moose Point"
With so many things happening all around the world at once, it’s easy to lose track.
Welcome to my website. One of my passions is nature photography and the reason I created this site was to share my images with friends and family. I've been photographing nature for 24 years.
