Beautiful replica of an authentic Portuguese Azulejo from the 17th century. This azulejo is a real clay tile, glazed on one of its sides and entirely painted by hand, reproducing the ancient gestures that allowed to obtain all its nuances of colors. This azulejo is painted by a craftsman who is usually in charge of restoring old azulejos. Very beautiful object of decoration, it can be used as it is as a paperweight, as a coaster or even as a trivet. It can also be mounted in a frame for display. Resistant to humidity and temperature variations, it can be mounted in panel on an interior or exterior wall. Why I love it A faithful reproduction of a 17th century Portuguese azulejo. The delicacy of the painter's gesture which makes it a unique object. The traditional method of manufacture. This Azulejo is part of a collection of hand-painted and molded Azulejos that is a must see.
Decorative tiles on the exterior of a building in Évora. Évora is the largest city in the Alentejo region of Portugal and boasts a history to match its size. Conquered by the Romans in 57BC, for more than 2,000 years it has been at the centre of the region, its economy and its politics. The signs of the Roman occupation are still evident in the shape of the magnificent temple at the heart of the city, while symbols from subsequent Moorish and Christian times abound. The 13th century cathedral and the 16th century aqueduct, which stretches to the north of the city, are two of the major attractions which draw tourists to the area. This is the travel feature I wrote about Evora and my time in Portugal as a whole for the paper: www.nwemail.co.uk/home/features/discovering-home-of-great...
