(10) of 19. I HAVE ADDED (19) photos for Featherbed Nature Reserve in Photojournalistic style to give you a good idea of the views you'll experience here!!! You'll have to look at them from BACK to FRONT in order to follow chronological views from catching the Ferry from the Waterfront at The Featherbed Company to the Heads- you set foot in a Milkwood jungle (a very slow growing protected tree species in this area)- this is where you eat later after the hike. The lunch was delicious and particularly the Malva pudding!! A South African dessert that I spent the rest of my trip ordering elsewhere to try to duplicate the pleasure to my tastebuds (haha)- to no avail! Everyone else fails by comparison!! ;-) The tour begins with an escort to the "John Deere tractors" that tour you up to the top of the Mountain- half way up- the road becomes unpaved and when its a little windy (often) it can get a little dusty ;-) You begin your 2Kilometer hike (I think) down the often steep and uneven edge of the Mountain/ Hill.... it is not really dangerous- just for the fit and sure footed.... even my legs were a little jellowy after all the steps down BUT I was told a 96 year old man and a blind man had made it in the last year ;-) Well worth the money, the Guide is informative, friendly and funny. The views are incredible!! It was a little hazy and windly the day I went and clouded over right at the end of my hike but even in not so great photographic conditions- this place would still be amazingly enjoyable! A MUST see in Knysna, South Africa! Book AHEAD!!
For reasonably priced luxury, convenience and surefire game viewing, Etali is a sensible safari option. A scenic three and a half hour drive from Johannesburg, South Africa, or sixty minute flight, it's easily accessible from the city. This region is dominated by acacia woodland and supports over 60 mammal species and 300 species of birds. From the comfort of camp, overlook the year-round waterhole that draws dozens of species per day and is especially abundant from September through November. Genuine warmth, delicious home cooked meals and the well-prepared Etali staff, who are willing to entertain, educate and oversee children, make this a perfect holiday for families.
