Hello ladies! Can you believe that February has come and gone? Below is a handout and a cute little spring gift idea, that you might want to give your ladies this month.
It’s almost March, which means it’s time for another Free VT Handout! This time I made 2 options! You could even take both 🙂 The first printable is a simple card with the message: “Each time you choose to try to live more like the Savior, you will have your testimony strengthened. You will come in […]
I have a good friend who is going through a tough trial right now, so I decided to make this cute little visiting teaching printable for her. Righteous desires can sometimes be the most painful. It is hard...
We have LOVED working on RS Lesson Kits - picking out quotes, coming up with a creative handout for each one; it really has been a cool experience to dive into the lessons that way. Sadly though, MANY of you don't teach RS or are serving in other organizations, but have expressed how you wished you could get the tags to use in your non-RS calling without having to buy each full lesson kit... (since you don't need lesson visuals, word strips, etc). SO... we decided to make a handout/quote bundle for you!! CHURCH HANDOUT BUNDLE As we looked back over the last 12 Lesson Kits, we realized each handout and quote isn't "Relief Society-Centric" at all... these are tid-bits of basic gospel principles that apply to all of us! From prayer and testimony - to resurrection and restoration - to the gift of the holy ghost and being daughters of God... so many AWESOME topics are covered! These tags can easily be used for lessons in any class, organization or activity... or even used as VT drop-bys or maybe there's one that would be just the right nudge of encouragement for someone you love! So, whether you are in YW, Activity Days, Primary, Seminary, Sunday School or RS - this bundle will be a great one to have at your fingertips! Here's a close up of each tag and quote... However you decide to use them - they are now available OUTSIDE the Lesson Kits and come in a bundle of 12 tag/handouts (with suggestions) + 12 quotes on coordinating topics. Each one, of course, derived from the Gordon B. Hinckley Lesson Manual. We'll make a second bundle at the end of the year that will combine all the handouts and quotes she does for July-December. A Fun Handout Idea and Printable Focused on JOY, Great for Ministering, Teacher or Leadership Training & So Much More, This pandemic sure has made us become accustomed to change. I currently, serve in our Stake Primary Presidency. Normally at this time we would have already done our summer visits with all of our wards, we would have trained our new primary presidencies, we would be sitting and listening to beautifully inspiring sacrament meeting programs and we would have done home visits for ward conferences. We have missed being about to do all of these things, we love our Primary presidencies and Primary children!! Normally in November, we would hold leadership training with all of our presidency members. This year we decided to split it up so we could properly social distance. We felt it vital to meet, to express our love and support and have the presidencies share any concerns and questions, as well as ideas. Our president, found this quote from President Nelson, that we thought was just perfect to handout to our Primary Presidencies and Choristers. I love it! The quote comes from a beautiful talk from October 2016 General Conference titled, "Joy and Spiritual Survival". We know that in this life we are going to experience hardships, we will get uncomfortable, our circumstances might not be ideal, but through it all, we can have Joy, as we focus on our Savior!! Another quote from the talk is, "For Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ is joy!" I whole heartedly believe this!! I wanted to share the printable we used on the blog. It's such an important message, especially in the world we live in today. There is hope and we can have joy!! Click the Free Download Button below for the free printable. I attached the printable onto an Almond Joy candy bar. I used jute on some and others I used tulle and then tied the tag on with bakers twine. You could also attach these to a bottle of Joy dish soap. Thank you so much for stopping by! For more ideas make sure you follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. I know I'm incredibly late posting these, but they are just too cute to not share. I'll be honest when I heard there would be no more visiting teaching I got a little sad. I look forward to making and sharing these with you and (when I have my act together) sharing them with the sweet women I get to visit teach. So I'm going to keep sharing ideas each month, and probably a few extra knowing me and my brain. I'll try to include a mix of religious/LDS themes and quotes and a few general so you can give them to anyone no matter if it's someone in your family (siblings, husband, child, parents, grandparents) or friends (neighbors, ward members, people with shared callings, etc.)! When I think of April I obviously think of April Showers! This little note is perfect for those little "drop" bys. I think it would be so cute to give your favorite body wash and a luffa for something little for their shower. You can find these in the travel section at Walmart or Target for only a dollar or two. The great thing about this idea is that it can be paired with lots of different inexpensive items. Like a little bag of lemon drops or other yellow candy. THESE old fashioned lemon drops are SO good! Or a super cute umbrella! Super useful and only $3 at Walmart. You can find an online option with awesome reviews HERE. Check back later this week, I'll be sharing even more "April Shower" ideas! Who do you think could us a little drop by?! Find the free printable HERE! This month we are encouraged to select a message from the most recent General Conference to share with our sisters for visiting teaching. I loved President Uchtdorf's talk, but I also loved Elder Cook's talk Foundations of Faith. With Mother's Day around the corner, and planting season in full swing I have been obsessed with all things garden and especially all the beautiful blossoms. In my mind having a good foundation definitely goes with flowers and gardening. Just like having a good foundation of soil helps your plants grow, we need to have a good foundation of faith for our testimony to grow so we can blossom spiritually! It reminds me of the parable of the seed and the sower. Where the seed was the word of God, the sower was the Lord, and the survival of the seed and its growth depended on the condition of the soil-the heart of the person who receives it. You can find more in Matthew 13:4-9, and even more can be found in this talk from President Eyring! So many great things about learning and growing from General Conference! If you listen with the Spirit, you will find your heart softened, your faith strengthened, and your capacity to love the Lord increased. -President Eyring For this handout you can attach this tag to so many different things. Here's just a few that I thought of: Smart Cookie sugar cookie in the shape of a flower, General Conference Ensign with highlighter, gardening tool or gloves, potted plant, packet of seeds, bouquet of flowers-there are super cheap ones at Trader Joe's, cookie and gum drop flower bouquet, grow kit-I found mine in the Dollar Bins at Target, flower magnets-you can find these wood cut outs at Hobby Lobby and attach a magnet to the back, and even flower pens-I made these years ago for my best friends bridal shower and I still love them. Or of course pop the calendar in a IKEA frame and you are good to go! Which idea is your favorite or do you have other flower ideas?! Let me know! Happy Visiting Teaching! I haven't always loved visiting teaching. I'm not sure I really understood it until a few years ago. In 2012 they changed visiting teaching. If this is news to you, you should go back and read it HERE. They compared the old way of visiting teaching to the Law of Moses. The new way is the higher law. So, are you still stuck on the Law of Moses where you go once a (every few) months and sit down and have a lesson, chat, and then leave with the old, "is there anything I can do for you?" Don't worry, lots of people still are. But you have an opportunity to do better. When I started following this new route of visiting teaching I absolutely fell in love. Suddenly I was becoming an instrument in the hands of the Lord and it felt so good. I have had sisters I visit teach tell me that I have changed their lives. Whoa, right? I have to tell them that it wasn't me at all. It was all the Lord. Following this new path of visiting teaching reaches the one, ministers to women, and strengthens all of us. All because it is all about being the hands of the Lord rather than following a cookie-cutter program. So let me give you 5 weird ways you can be a better visiting teacher that you've probably never heard of before. 1. Wait Until the Last Day of the Month to Report That might sound contrary to what you've been told at church. "Report by the 15th!" No way. If you report before the end of the month you imply that your visiting teaching is somehow over, checked off the list, done for the month. But that isn't how visiting teaching is supposed to be. Not anymore. Forget about numbers. It isn't that way anymore. Reporting is just checking in with the Relief Society Presidency and an opportunity to forward on the needs of the women you minister to. There is no "yes" or "no" as to whether or not you have done your visiting teaching. You are supposed to report your efforts for the month, what you have done to minister, and any needs your sisters have. Now, if an urgent need is found during the month, you should definitely make a call to the Relief Society Presidency and get help. As for the dates involved, forget about it. Don't let your visiting teaching efforts revolve around months or dates. That is SO 3 years ago. 2. Stalk the Ladies You Visit Teach I'm not saying you should be a creeper, but friend them on facebook, even if you don't really know them! Follow them on Instagram and check out their Pinterest page. Social media is a great way to get to know your sisters and interact with them. Notice the details. They mention a family event or upcoming trip? Write it down if you need to, or schedule a reminder in your phone to ask about it. Sometimes technology can help you learn how to be a good friend to them. If your sisters aren't on social media, then find different ways to nudge yourself into their lives and get to know them. If you don't know anything about your sisters, sorry, but you probably aren't going to be a very effective visiting teacher. 3. Skip the Message Whoa, what? I know, I'm actually telling you to skip the message. I promise I'm not being sacrilegious. Remember the year where visiting teaching was super awkward because the messages were all about being a good visiting teacher? Then you felt like a moron when you went visiting teaching because it was something you should have been doing, but you weren't, so you just felt like an embarrassed hypocrite. Well, those messages weren't meant for you to share with the sisters you visit teach. They were for you. You were supposed to come up with your own message. They started giving messages again because we didn't get it. But let me tell you, it's a better way to visit. Pray. Figure out what gospel topic or message your sisters need or want to discuss. That means you may need a different message for each sister. Visiting teaching is a safe place to meet the very personal needs of women. The message in the Ensign is for millions of women, it is not for the one. We're changing. It's time to focus on the one. 4. Stop Bringing Cookies We rely way too much on cookies and treats. Sometimes we even leave a plate of cookies on the doorstep and call it good for the month. We're missing the point. Jesus wasn't talking literally when he said "feed my sheep." Your cookies and treats are a crutch. If you stop leaning on them, you'll be forced to find new ways to be a better visiting teacher. I promise that you will have a whole new world opened up to you. Once you figure out how to reach the one, then you can consider baked goods as a way to minister, if appropriate. Just don't let it be your crutch. 5. Treat Everyone Differently In a world that seems to be focusing a lot on equality and treating everyone the same, I'm going to suggest the opposite. Treat each of the sisters you visit teach differently. Your sisters are all different people with different needs. Visiting teaching them the exact same way won't reach their individual needs. One sister may need someone to go walking with on occasion. Another may be home bound and may need home visits and a listening ear. Another may have a chaotic home life and needs an escape. Perhaps she needs to come to your home to escape! Another may want nothing to do with the church but is willing to let you send her texts. Visiting teaching is about meeting needs. Stop treating your sisters the same. Treat them as individuals and you'll have a better chance at effectively meeting their needs. Bonus: Never ask "Is there anything I can do for you?" It's a cop out. Live the higher law. Do unto others as they would have done unto themselves. Figure out their needs and meet them. Don't just ask the standard question when you know that the socially traditional response is, "nope, I'm fine!" When I served in a Relief Society Presidency I found that sisters often underestimated their efforts in visiting teaching. They beat themselves up for what they didn't do, and didn't realize all of the things they were doing. A sister once reported that she had failed to do her visiting teaching that month. I told her that was a bunch of crap. I knew that she watched the children of the woman she visit taught several times that month, had brought them dinner, and had been checking in with her almost daily. But she hadn't visited and shared a message. This sister was beating herself up for not following the law of Moses, and neglecting to see where she was following the higher law. It's time to live the higher law. We can be better. We need to be better. The Visiting Teaching program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is an inspired program that allows sisters to be instruments in the hands of the Lord. Every woman deserves the opportunity to feel those ministering hands in her life. Be the hands! ________________________________________________ You may also like these articles: 5 Things to Stop Doing When Teaching About the Law of Chastity How to Actually Repent: The 12 Steps of Repentance 4 Things You Can Do Right Now to Battle Pornography In Your Home

I cannot believe how many handout ideas I have for this months Visiting Teaching Principle. So for the next week I will be sharing an idea or two each day so keep checking back. I love that holidays make it a great excuse to visit your sisters and give them a cute treat or handout! Later on this week I will have more holiday themed handouts but I thought I'd start with some general tags if you prefer those instead. This month the principle we are focusing on is Pray for Each Sister By Name. There really is so much power in prayer! When we pray specifically for others we are better able to help them when needed. And this quote from Elder Bednar fit so perfectly. This tag can obviously go along with Powerade or any kind of protein bar or drink, another favorite protein drink is Premier Protein-there Caramel and chocolate flavors are awesome! These Power Bars would work so well too! Anything that could give the sisters you visit teach a little more power. ;) Print, attach to the treat of your choice and go! How easy is that!? I love a good tag that can be paired with different things. Find the free 'Power In Prayer printable HERE!
