‘Everything in Between’ is a women’s ready-to-wear collection designed by Emily Cameron. Inspired by recent travels to Japan and Takashi Murakami’s Superflat art movement, garments explore the relationship between 2D and 3D through print, embellishment and silhouette. The collection title alludes to the blurred lines separating 2D and 3D categories within fashion, with the body of work proposing unique combinations of the two. Emily has explored the Japanese cultural appropriation of Hawaiian motifs, recontextualising them with a Superflat pop art aesthetic that emulates the hyper colour and bold forms of Murakami’s work. Other references include 1960s archetype garments, the art of Andy Warhol and popular culture. Materials, techniques and colour, drive the design process. Key techniques include the use of heat transfer vinyl to create crisp graphic placement prints and outlines, and laser cutting perspex to give a 3D element to 2D prints.
