These illustrations tell us a heartbreaking story about a woodworker who cannot let go of someone he loves deeply.
Franklin Booth (1874-1948) American artist of detailed pen-and-ink illustrations with the appearance of wood engravings. He created this style when he was young, self-teaching from illustrated magazine art, not realizing they were engravings. Based in Richmond, Virginia artist Morgan Herrin transforms the most humble material—laminated construction grade 2x4s—into spectacularly detailed figurative sculptures. His choice of imagery is surreal: a noble 15th century knight melts into a network of dripping stalagmites or a classical marble bust that is overgrown with parasitic sea creatures. The resulting works are a fascinating juxtaposition of material and subject matter that require up to a year of labor to produce. Of the untitled knight piece Herrin says: Untitled (Knight) is the product of the combination of two subjects: 15th century plate armor, and geological cave structure. More
These beautiful and intriguing illustrations are by Harriet Lee-Merrion who is a free-lance illustrator living in Bristol. I don’t think…
"Als ich 5 oder 6 Jahre alt war, sah ich das erste Mal, wie einem Hasen das Genick gebrochen und ihm sein Fell abgezogen wurde. Ich musste fast kotzen. Es gab Hasenbraten. Zu dieser Zeit aß ich bereits kein Fleisch mehr und hätten sie einen Hund oder eine Katze geschlachtet, es hätte für mich keinen Unterschied gemacht." - Ein Einblick in ein sehr persönliches Projekt
The Stormy Weather Arts Festival in Cannon Beach, Oregon was earlier in the month (a bit behind on posting this days!). I love visiting Cannon Beach and super happy to be part of an awesome gallery in the area - Archimedes Gallery. I was part of their newest group show and also did a gouache/ink demonstration that afternoon. It had been a while since I'd done a demo and had a grand time! Such a great day to visit the beach. There's the famous "Haystack Rock" seen in the Goonies movie (never say die!). Hello there Archimedes owl. I love the balcony view at the gallery. I really dig how this area of shops in Cannon Beach are laid out. Every twist and turn has a secret coffee shop, gallery, or awesome food. Three of my favorite things. Oh and pups...this is a very dog friendly community. Working on some small paintings, talking to people as they stop by. Quite a few fellow artists visiting for the festival...got to talk about favorite materials and supplies. Thanks Lindsey at Archimedes for snapping this photo! Here are my two paintings for the show. These are very much inspired by the Pacific Northwest with lots of tree and plant life. I love how moss clings to everything here. I have admired Frank Gonzales work for quite a while and was super excited to see these paintings (above) by him. Beautifully painted birds + crystals and plants = win! Another view of the inside of Archimedes Gallery. Nothing like a calm evening sunset. The festival is named "Stormy Weather" but the weather couldn't have been better. .............................................................................................................................................
