Description Vlad II Dracul, voivode of Wallachia from 1436-1442 and 1443-1447, father of Vlad III the Impaler. He became a member of Sigisimund of Luxemburg's Order of the Dragon around 1431, thus earning his nickname Dracul ("the Dragon"). The illustration here is based on the knight figures of the Jankovich saddle as well as some period drawings (e.g. manuscriptminiatures.com/5874/… and manuscriptminiatures.com/4741/…). The bone parade saddle was made sometime around 1430 and is bearing the insignia of the order, it is currently on display at the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest and was bought by Miklós Jankovich from Bucharest for 500 000 forints, it is thought to have belonged to Vlad II and later to his son. More info on the saddle here www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahOLV4… (though the video is in Hungarian so you'll have to generate some subtitles for it, at least that's how I managed to understand it ). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I usually post on my pinterest account so if you want to you can check there for more drawings and sources, link here: ro.pinterest.com/alin_alexandr…
