Howdy, y'all! Omigosh... it's finally Friday! I am seriously counting down the days now... only 25 days of school left... that's only 200 hours {jazz hands!}. Linking up with Doodle Bugs for her linky today... without further ado... 1) My all-time favorite polish color. Sure I cheat sometimes and stray to other colors... just to see what they are like... but I always find myself back with this one. It is Cajun Shrimp by OPI and it's FAB! It has this orang-y-ish (yes, I just made that a word) tint to it... is bright and just makes me happy. I take my pedicures very seriously... I go every 2 weeks. Let's call it an attitude adjustment. I started going when I was pregnant with M1... when I couldn't even see my dang toes... and it became an addiction. 2) The hubs is from the Chicago area and we are huge Cubs and Bears fans... well, this week Adrian Peterson (go Bears!) came to visit at our school. The boys wore their Bears gear, got to meet AP... and get him to sign books. AP went to and played football for Georgia Southern University here where we live... and he travels here often to meet with groups of kids... how cool is that?!!?!?! 3) Had date night last Friday night in Savannah.... had some amazing shrimp and grits on River Street (nom...nom...nom) and then talked Mr. Funky Fresh into taking me to Target to stalk the dollar bins. I found these treasures and snatched up several a few. I am going to Wal Mart this weekend in search of yellow sponges to cut into the shape of french fries! I am planning on making them into a math center... and I'm so excited about it! 4) I've had a very laid back kinda week... lots of spending time at home... trying to find the perfect balance of work, home, etc.... This is my 11th year and I still haven't found that perfect balance... but I still try! Took my crew to Steak and Shake for dinner... even though it was going to mean a late bedtime... even though it was unhealthy... here is my crew at dinner {proof that I am obviously the only normal one in my family!!!} 5) Didn't do much with my TpT stuff this week.... in fact I bought a bunch! That's the beauty of the website... when I know that I won't have time to make something... there is always something worthy when I look! I did make a cursive practice pack {Let's Conquer Cursive} and I have had a good response with it so far! I hope that you guys had a great Friday... and hopefully will have an even better weekend. See y'all soon! {oh... what is your favorite OPI polish color if you have one?}

"A teaching blog packed with inspiration, FREEBIES, and fun!"
First graders need more than worksheets, ipads, and computers. They need scissors, glue, crayon, paint, glitter and so much more! We have to find a happy balance between assessing knowledge through worksheets and technology and assessing knowledge through creation. Creation comes in many forms and one that worked beautifully in my classroom was creating crafts with an assessment piece attached. The finished product always made my students proud. My two year old granddaughter was thrilled to see her "Name Caterpillar" on my fridge! When she saw it displayed she broke out in a huge grin and said, "Granmommy, that's my Name Caterpillar. It says Harper!" We want our students to have this same feeling when they see their work displayed at school. If creating a craft helps to do that....I say DO IT!!! Fridays were always our new craft day. It was always the culmination of what we had studied in reading, science or social studies. The craft always had an assessment piece tied to it. The assessment might be creating a list, completing a graphic organizer, writing about what they had read, etc. Crafts take some planning ahead of time so that everything runs smoothly. Below are some tips that may be useful. 1. Print the patterns on colored paper. I cut the construction paper to fit in my printer and print straight from the printer. You could do the same for the copy machine. I just found it more convenient to use my printer. 2. Let the students cut out the patterns. They need to use those scissors to help boost fine motor skills. 3. Create the craft yourself and display for students to use as a guide or you can display the picture included in the product if you have purchased a product. I created the craft and students used it to guide them in putting the pieces together. I never showed them how to do it. This step helps them to persevere and problem solve. It makes them find their GRIT! 4. They won't ALL be perfect but each student will create a beautiful piece. 5. Complete the assessment piece first. Explain thoroughly what is expected and pair students if needed. Maybe you have never attempted a craft because you think it is too time consuming and will waste academic time. Try it because I know that your students will learn important skills needed as they get older: how to follow directions, how to persevere when things are tough, how to find facts from what they are reading, how to research, etc. Click the link below to get started with a fun FREE rubber ducky craft and graphic organizer. Everybody loves rubber duckies! Why not let your students read about them and create this fun craft? Perfect for any time of the year but especially perfect for the end of the school year or Rubber Ducky Day on January 13. Rubber Ducky FREEBIE

First things first...setting up a classroom is SERIOUSLY hazardous to your health. :) I have only been back for 3 days and I managed to fall, get like 4 bruises, and yesterday, totally skinned my ankle using a rolling chair. I thought I was dying...I told my team leader to take me to the
