Rock Island eastbound freight "46" climbs away from Limon behind two U33b (298....) This is a re-edit job of a previous posting. The new edit seems to bring in the Front Range of the Rockies better, and they're about a hundred miles away in this view. The train order slingers in the group - you know who you are - may have noticed the lack of lit-up class lights on the nose, and in the Rock's single track ABS territory that stretched all the way east to Illinois with only a few breaks of double track and/or CTC, there were second class trains in the timetable - three each way here. But the numbers had been changed within the past year and I recall that the old numbers hung on in train crews' references, so this is probably #82, formerly a hot hot hot train to Chicago. But the rails with whom I worked just called it 46 and this young brakeman didn't know any better. As long as I could park my VW Beetle down in the weeds and put up a tripod for the 400mm lens, and the crew caller wasn't looking for me, I was happy.
