Keeping an amaryllis bulb after flowering is easy. Follow these detailed steps for what to do with it once the blooms have faded and died.
Paul came home and had bought me three beautiful Amaryllis stems, two red and one white. They were still closed, and that is the way you should buy them, so full of promise! This is not so unusual for him, and NO, it is NOT because I'll have to 'forgive' him for something!!! Where does this misconception come from, how did it start? I have always known men (agreed, on the Continent) who gave flowers to their loved one and vice versa. It is a wonderful, meaningful and loving gesture and can sometimes say more than words! It is not wrong or embarrassing to be 'romantic'... And yet when a man walks around with a bouquet, you see the look in the eyes of passers-by, it is such a sad cliché, and many ladies are the victim of it, their man would love to give them flowers, but they'll not be seen carrying them! LOL! In fact they are Hippeastrum, which is a genus of about 70–75 species and 600+ hybrids and cultivars of bulbous plants in the family Amaryllidaceae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas from Argentina north to Mexico and the Caribbean. Some species are grown for their large showy flowers. These plants are popularly but erroneously known as Amaryllis Most flowers sold in the UK are bought by women. However, come Valentine's Day, the majority of flowers sold are overwhelmingly bought by men! Why is this? What is stopping men buying flowers the rest of the year? I know I'm a lucky woman! I don't want them on the 14th of February, that's commercial obligation, it doesn't make me feel 'special'. Out of the blue, that is what matters and does it for me! Studies show that flowers actually have a positive effect on human beings! Some surveys show that women have very positive feelings towards men carrying flowers, considering him a thoughtful, romantic and loving kind of guy, and are often jealous of the man's partner for receiving such a lovely gift - it could boost your rating in the popularity stakes to be seen with a bunch of flowers! So come on..................... Photographed in a ‘sensual’ way, they made me think of fiery flames, the ruched skirts of the Flamenco dancers; my excuse is that I'm a ‘romantic creative’… Tee hee. Have fun and thanx, M, (*_*) Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

I cherish a deep love for the Dutch Old Masters. As a contemporary artist, I work with the female nude and portraiture. So I was immediately enthusiastic when the Rembrandt House approached me to create a new series of works inspired by Rembrandt’s nudes. His incredible drawings and etchings show not only amazing technique and individuality, but also a sublime mastery of light, shadow and composition. His strong light-dark contrasts and his bold compositions, engaging costumes and draperies, resulted in powerful visual images. His models, portrayed from life, with their own personalities and bodies, not adjusted to fashion and ideals, were striking in their day, and remained so into the present. Rembrandt’s nudes inspired me to create new works in which I have been able to capture magical moments in new works of art. The explosion of creativity has resulted in a large body of work which I call “The Rembrandt Series.” Among the numerous honorary positions held and awards received include Jury Member World Press Photo Contest; Selection Committee Member De Nederlandse Portretprijs; Guest Curator Naarden Fotofestivalr; Jury Member Photo Book, Portraits 2016, Fotobond; PDN / Photo District News Annual 2016, Winner; The 2009 International Photography Awards (IPA), Honorable Mention; The New York Photo Awards 2009 nomination in the Fine Art single Image category; 2006 Le Prix Découverte des Rencontres d'Arles nomination; 1999 Starter stipend, The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture.

If you’re not growing ranunculus flowers (Tecolote ranunculus) in your garden, you might consider giving it a go. These gorgeous bloomers have a rose-like appearance with layers of thin petals, straight stems, and frilly foliage. And the color range! Anywhere from white, cream and pale yellow to golden yellow, apricot, orange, red, and burgundy. Most gardeners, regardless of zone, can grow ranunculus — you simply have to understand what they like in order to be their blooming best. Growing Requirements For Ranunculus Flowers Light: Full sun Temperature: 55° (think Southern California) Water: Light water at planting, then medium water when actively growing Soil: Light and well-drained USDA Hardiness Zones: Zones 4-7 (annuals), Zones 8-10 (perennials) Kellogg Garden Organics All Natural Garden Soil Learn More Product Locator by Locally **Product not available in AZ, CA, HI, NV, UT. For a comparable product in these states click here. How to Plant Ranunculus Bulbs Planting ranunculus couldn’t be any easier. They come as bulbs (or corms) and are typically mail-ordered or picked up at a garden center — look for large, healthy-looking bulbs that will grow and support large, healthy plants with lots of blooms. Plant ranunculus bulbs 4” apart and about 2” deep with the “claw” side down in a location receiving full sun. Cover with soil and lightly water in. Now, leave it alone until you see signs of leaves sprouting — that’s right, no water! Then moderately water during active growth and blooming. (I told you this was easy, didn’t I?) When blooms have finished, let the foliage yellow and wither before cutting back. And during this time, don’t water at all, as that could rot your bulbs. Planting time? That depends upon where you live. If you’re in Zones 8-10, plant in the fall for spring blooms. Gardeners in Zones 4-7, plant in the spring for late summer bloom, and plan on treating them as annuals. Yes, I know you don’t want to plant annual bulbs — but come on, with flowers as gorgeous as these are (and which are so easy to plant), don’t you think it’s worth it? How to Use Ranunculus Flowers Because of their straight stems and medium-sized growth, ranunculus flowers are ideal for container plantings, borders, cutting gardens, and mixed perennial gardens. Want to use them in a cut flower arrangement? Here are some quick tips: 1. Cut the stems when buds are showing but aren’t yet open. 2. Remove the leaves from the lower part of the stem. 3. Re-cut the bottoms of the stems after you go inside, and place them in a vase of water immediately. 4. Change water every other day to enjoy beautiful cut ranunculus flowers for up to 10 days.
