From his early series of work inspired by the forms and aesthetic of the Russian Supremetists of the 1910’s but on an American scale as a shaped canvas (hard-edge painting was a big deal at the time) and on the eve of the American bicentennial. A companion work from 1979, also monumental, is part of the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Okinawa_Soba has a lot original images of the descendants of slaves in America, as well as several showing actual slaves who were "freed" during the America's Civil War. To match these images, he also has a box of 19th Century and early 20th Century images of "Black Africa", showing the tribes, roots, and culture that is now a universe away from the modern day existence of "African Americans".
