I tend to relate my life and the world around me to music,to the trees and birds, and also to the weather. As I look around, I see the world is presently experiencing the effects of an unstable atmosphere. The red flag warnings have been posted and there are signs of an impending storm. Dew points are rising, making us uncomfortable and irritable. Anytime a storm approaches, you need to gauge the temperature levels outside. As the warm moist air is pulled into a storm system,it leaves a low-pressure vacuum in its wake. The air travels up through the storm cloud and helps to fuel it. People are angry, hypocritical, gloomy, fretful, easily offended and dissatisfied because the vacuum in their cloud is being fueled by fear, creating a storm cloud that hangs over them. Media pounds out fear, day after day. Social media takes away human contact that we so desperately need as creatures who are created for love. Society can no longer see any solutions to their unrest as visibility is zero percent. They are in a spiritual drought and do not know where to find water to quench their thirst. Turning to mere humans to find answers will not extinguish this storm. The answer is a spiritual one, as we are spiritual creatures, created by God to find our peace in his love for us.The one who created us is waiting for our response to the love that gave us our being. In him the storm clouds dissipate and we are saturated with a calm that only he can provide. Yes, in this world we will have storms, we will have tribulations, but we can find the ray of sunshine that breaks through those clouds and says, "Come to me and I will give you rest." The long range forecast looks good, the future will be bright. "Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life." "Whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never become thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become a well of water for him, springing up to eternal life." Jesus

About The Artwork Oil painting with a Latvian typical landscape with sea, sun set, clouds, still wind, calm weather. We see only a slight ripple of water and shine. The landscape reflects the summer, evening mood, bright colors. The state of the landscape expresses peace, serenity and joy. In this painting, the sea distance acquires more mystery, magnetism and attractiveness. I really love the theme of the world. I will be tempted to watch the waves, wonder how the colours of the sky and the sea change, how sometimes it seems that there is no horizon and the sea goes straight into the sky. Only the cries of the seagulls bring me back to land. It has a sense of something very romantic, inspiring. It is close to impressionism or expressionism style, with bright colours and warming mood. The artwork is painted pasty, with thick strokes, the texture of the paint is visible. The painting was created in an unusual manner for me. I was inspired by an artwork of Peter Beeson. The overall plot echoes his artwork. I wanted to experiment with technique, try a new style of painting. Artwork was created in 2020, canvas on carton. Communicating sensation through figuration has always been a central theme in my work. I never tire of the endless challenges and opportunities the human form presents. And by combining the figure with bold graphic elements, an invisible, layered reality emerges. Concentric circles echo the rippling of water and heighten the already charged world the figures inhabit. The aggressive handling of palette knife and paint mimic the fluidity and energy of the subject matter. I’m constantly striving to represent form with fewer strokes and a simpler palette, engaging the viewer to complete the piece in their own minds eye. I draw my inspiration from many different sources. The Bay Area figurative artists, the colorist approach of Fairfield Porter and the abstraction of Sonia Delaunay. Bio Paul Norwood grew up on the coast of Maine and decided early on that he’d rather paint the sea than fish from it. He went on to study fine art and graduate from Syracuse University with a BFA. His career as an art director and creative director has had a lasting influence on his work. He now paints full time at his studio in Mill Valley, California and on Martha’s Vineyard.
