About The Artwork My work is usually about the fragile balance between men and nature. I find inspiration in the delicate structures of the microscopic world and in the cycle of growth, flowering and decay. I play with the coexistence of attraction and repulsion, allowing the objects to evoke positive and negative feelings. I am known for my tactile approach, playing with texture, experimental techniques and organic shapes. Pods #6698 is a unique piece from the Pods series. Two pieces (35 x 22 x 12 cm and 120 x 40 x 20 cm) are combined. The bright ocher color is vibrant and evokes a positive feeling. The piece can be hung on the wall in different ways, on a hanging hook or nail. Yumi Okita's over-sized cloth moths are a delight. They bring to mind Mosura (Mothra), the giant fuzzy moth from the "Godzilla" films! I am also reminded of another unusual plush toy animal: years and years ago, my best friend/roommate and I went to visit the then-new Monterey Bay Aquarium here in Northern California. In the gift shop, they had racks and racks of all the expected stuffed animals, all the cute and cuddly ones like otters, pelicans, seals, dolphins, even whales. And then she spotted it: a plush toy sting ray, all flat and evil. She just had to have it! I still marvel at what an odd choice it was to make a ray into a stuffed animal. Who gave that the green light at the toy factory? Yumi Okita's Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/irohandbags

French artist Cecile Dachary works in many mediums including ceramic, but her fabric, crochet, and embroidery work is utterly fascinating because of its unconventional subject matter. She uses the human body as a springboard for studies of our internal organs and bacteria that can live in or on us. It is beautiful and startling work. Top to bottom: hanging bacteria; bacteria in a jar; single bacteria; cushions embroidered with human internal organs; organs and vascular system under a cloche; organs in three cloches; Peau (Skin); le Potager des Organes (The Vegetable Garden of Organs) Look at her website for examples of her work in other mediums: http://www.ceciledachary.com/index.html

About The Artwork This sculpture is part of Second Skin Abstract serie. By using my family's clothes as a metaphor, I allude to the work of taking care of the bodies and by reusing the material I am also taking care of nature. The idea was to create my own version of pieces made the year I was born, 1974, I started with Snake by Yayoi Kusama. "When bodies hollow out, what can flourish in those fissures? That’s the sense of post-human possibility that I’m trying to fashion in fiber."
Artist Mallory Zondag creates soft sculpture fiber art, made from mixed materials including felting, inspired by patterns found in nature.
About The Artwork I used my clothes to shape my building blocks for this interactive piece - you can play with Diana and let her explore her world to her delight. It serves as a perfect vehicle for your playful imagination and joy: Diana the doll is quite pliable and is fully capable of coming up with the most audacious acrobatic leaps of faith. All hand-stitched, textile elements are stuffed with cotton, some are equipped with wire for bending, some are driftwood or wood branches inside their fabric clothes. The doll has soft wire bones so she can bend her knees and elbows. She is fully aware of her mimicry skills when she hides in the tree branches. The artwork is lightweight and hangs on a nail; you may find other anchors if you so prefer. I never dug dissecting critters in biology class at school. I understood its relevance but always thought there must be some better way of discovering how a frog, or a rat, or a mouse worked—hadn’t millions of these little fuckers been sliced and diced by more knowledgeable people before me? I wasn’t being wimpy, I just knew too many weirdos who, inspired by their gory handwork in class, bragged about clipping the fins off fish from the local pond for the jollies. Artist Sabine Feliciano may have had similar thoughts about dissection class. She makes textile sculptures of dissected animals with their beautiful guts displayed for all to see. Feliciano transforms materials, or what she describes as the “thread of life,” into woven, crocheted, and stitched colorful representations of anatomized animals. Her intention is to “transcribe a sensation,” causing a visceral response in the viewer, which I’m sure it does. (“It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it.”) She also adds pearls and stones to her work. The finished result is an oddly disturbing mix of disemboweled toy and a strange and beautiful memento mori—which invites our touch. Feliciano has been exhibiting...

About The Artwork This artwork is about exploring new ways of love, new forms of being, new connections in this world. How to be both soft and hard, how to marry extremes in oneself. I knitted various shapes, took them apart, put them back together in new ways, took them apart again, built new connections. I did it for quite a while until suddenly it connected and became one whole. This artwork uses a wooden stretcher as a foundation, wire and woven ribbons define the grid, knitted elements are woven into the piece. Textiles in various textures wrap the wood and are reinforced by cement and paint. About The Artwork Nature has been an important muse to me. While I don’t try to replicate nature, I do strive to capture its essence, along with the sense of mystery it embodies. I am fascinated by the movement, the gestures, the textures, the patterns, the power, the serendipity, the unpredictability, and the perfection of the imperfections in nature. This piece was created right after I returned from a bucket list trip to Patagonia. I was inspired by the expanses of white, the active glaciers, the vast empty spaces, the monument land features and the majesty and power of natural world. Through the transformation of a common material, cotton swabs, I am commenting on the potential all around us and I invite the viewer to pay closer attention to the unexpected, overlooked and often inspirational aspects of their own world. This piece includes a custom made black shadowbox frame and the piece itself is covered by a clear matte varnish for protection. About The Artwork This sculpture is based on an idea of an abstracted heart shape. It consists of painted silk, thread, beads, plastic string, yarn, and polyfill stuffing. It is meant to express the beauty and hope the heart continues to hold even when constrained or experiencing struggle. There is much surface embellishment, lovingly hand-sewn and applied, lending tactile interest and textural contrast. It can be wall mounted or set on a pedestal. There is no hardware; the strings on this piece can be used to simply hang the work. Mr. Finch, a reserved artist in England who goes only by this name, creates beautiful woodland creatures and plants that seem to have come right out of old English fables. Hares, spiders and mushrooms are recurring characters in his dream-like pieces, which are also inspired by British folklore and fairytales. They are all sewn out of vintage textiles, each of which has a story to tell.

About The Artwork I created this piece by folding and connecting felt material to panel, recreating wave forms of the natural world. It is part of a series I began during the early days of the pandemic, using remnant fabric from a previous large commission. The ability to develop ideas and experiment throughout months of self-isolating felt both like a new discovery and a constant companion, hence the reference in each of the works’ titles to heavenly bodies. I hope the viewer finds visual harmony in the interconnected, wild curves of this piece—and life itself. About The Artwork This black and white abstract art object from the "Contrasts" series is created of merino wool using the wet felting method. Wool has endless possibilities as a material, and it is always interesting for me to discover it. Cozy, tactile objects made of wool will never break or disappoint. About The Artwork This series of work evolved from a larger installation piece for an exhibition. The material itself led the evolution of the work, the techniques and informed the final outcome. As with all of my work, it is an exploration of the repurposing and reimagining of existing materials. This artwork is about that transformation, through exploring the balance between deconstruction and reconfiguration. This artwork can either be a free standing sculpture or it can be wall-mounted. The dimensions vary.
