I GOT ACCEPTED! Hi! My name is Malan McCracken and I am a college student. At the beginning of this past fall semester, I applied to be apart of the Disney College Program. I applied because I have grown up my whole life going to Disney World. We moved a lot as kids (me and my three older brothers). Our parents weren't in the military or anything, our dad would just get different jobs in different places. Well, I, alone, have lived in five different states in my 21 years. If you think that's a lot, remember my brothers are older than me and we were all born in different states. It never bothered us and it wasn't a bad thing, but the thing that was always there was Disney. No matter where we lived we always managed to find our way to Disney at one point or another. You might say we were Disney Raised. We were definitely raised Disney. My brothers and I would sing Disney music all the time. The best part? When it's your brother who starts singing "Part of your World" instead of you. That was the first Disney song I remember learning as a kid. Even though we have gotten older, that hasn't stopped us from seeing all the new Disney movies too. That's the best part of Disney. It never gets old even if you do. We still have all the classics on VHS and I don't think we will ever get rid of them. They are our childhood. So if you haven't guessed already, I did get accepted for this wonderful opportunity to work at the place I have grown up loving and am always wanting to go back. I love Disney! Everything about it! While I am working for Disney I will be blogging here! I want to share my experiences with anyone who loves Disney as much as I do or whoever wants to do the Disney College Program. I am excited and nervous, which is always a good combination. I hope you enjoyed my introduction to this blog and what it is about. Let me know if you have any blog requests or question and what you thought in the comments below. Have a Magical Day!

My Exploring Leadership class was an 8 week seminar held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30! Here is a little recap of what we learned about each week! Week 1: Introduction We had an overview of our course and what we would be learning, and learned about our fabulous instructor. He has been with the company for many years in some wonderful roles, and even did the College Program himself. We also did a group activity related to the responsibilities of our managers. Week 2: Disney's Chain of Excellence We discovered the Chain of Excellence, and how to satisfy both guest and Cast Member needs. Week 3: Strengthening Teams We discussed the 5 approaches to conflict, and how to effectively utilize conflict resolution skills. We also talked about how Disney incorporates recognition for the Cast Members. Week 4: Diversity and Inclusion We talked about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and especially at Disney. We did a group activity to discover more about the diversity within our class. Week 5: Storytelling [Magic Kingdom field experience] We explored the power of Disney storytelling in no better place than the Magic Kingdom! We started with a guided tour from the entrance, in Town Square, and through Main Street. Then we were split into groups to explore the details and storyline in Liberty Square. Week 6: Leadership Competencies We had a day full of games and group challenges as we learned about the different leadership competencies that our company relies on. Week 7: Leadership Examples [Animal Kingdom field experience] We met at Animal Kingdom to explore the park and discover real-life examples of the leadership concepts that we had talked about throughout the seminars. Week 8: Closing Session We de-briefed on the entirety of the experience and lessons from the course, and wrapped up our seminars by earning our Mouseters Degree! My Mouseters Degree and Perfect Attendance Award Overall, I loved this class and really learned a lot about how to be a successful leader, what makes Disney so successful in the industry, and gained a better appreciation for so many aspects of the company.
