About The Artwork This artwork is currently exhibited at Palazzo Gio' Imperiale, Genoa. The characteristics of the statuary marble are sometimes the presence of small gray dots and shaded streaks, ranging from brown to gray. Being able to get the best marble in Carrara is not easy, since there are so many deposits and sawmills that is easy to get lost. Once I had tried to go to the quarry, but on those streets, the car grazes with truck loaded with block of marble so I renounced. Anyway I go to the sculptors school of Carrara who always have the statuary. About the sculpture: the whole surface is uniformly smooth and polished. About The Artwork The process I use to make most of my sculpture is called lost foam or evaporetive pattern casting. It is very difficult to control. Essentially you bury a foam pattern in dry loose sand and vibrate it and pour molten metal onto the foam. You always get something but not necessarily what the pattern looks like. There are about 50 reasons why it will not work. The sand wants to move as the metal is filling up the form. It took me hundreds of tries to grasp what was happening in the mold. There were no books to read on how to do this. For some reason I lucked out on the first try and it worked. It was like winning the jack pot so I knew it could work. I am stubborn or stupid so I worked for years to learn how to control the process. This is one of the most interesting flops. It reminded me of what I thought the Chernoble reactor melt down might look like. It might be a good design to remind the crew in some very dangerous industry to use in teaching the safety class to illustrate there is a reason to pay attention to the details while working. About The Artwork Edition of 25 - All works cast to order with lead time of 16 weeks From the maquette of the large scale Poise and Tension III I was keen to dip my toe into the world of bronze casting. It took a lot of time and research to find the right person for the job. I am interested with playing with the scale of different pieces and am delighted with the outcome, the added drama of the scale of the larger piece is matched by the added tension on the smaller items Original Created:2016 Subjects:Performing Arts Materials:Bronze Styles:FigurativeCubismFine ArtModernAbstract Mediums:BronzeMetal Details & Dimensions Sculpture:Bronze on Bronze Artist Produced Limited Edition of:25 Size:5.1 W x 9.8 H x 3.1 D in Frame:Not Framed Ready to Hang:Not applicable Packaging:Ships in a Crate Shipping & Returns Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments. Thank you! Alex Kovacs Someone wrote this about me, so read on. "Alex Kovacs is a noted New York artist whose creations are the most frequently reproduced objects in the history of the development of the metal arts. His "rainbow" style aluminum sculptures are easily recognized by their distinguished look you can see so often imitated by others, at any metal sculpture oriented page on the web. On the World Wide Web you will find them at a reasonable price, not much higher, than galleries or dealers pay for his work wholesale! Alex's sculptures are made of the highest grade industrial aluminum available, and are coated in urethane for long lasting protection. The "swirling" designs are grinded into the aluminum, colored with an anodized enamel, that was developed strictly for this metal. His famous "holographic" effects, that Alex perfected in color, comes to life at any light source one can imagine of. This is a main feature in Alex's work, that he developed in 2006. These days you can find just about all metal "artists" riding on his band wagon! Alex is also known for being the only artist ever to use a twelve foot black powder cannon to shoot the paint with onto his canvases and create large abstract art in this manner, back in the seventies. You can find these Cannon Paintings and videos in the making at his official website and if you like to know more about him, please visit any of these websites.
