I'm back from a relaxing long weekend, hope you had a good one too. Today's vintage children's book, What the Moon Saw, is another goodie from Brian Wildsmith. Love his depictions of animals and use of color. What the Moon Saw Brian Wildsmith Oxford University Press

Today I'm showing some teaching cards illustrated by the wildly talented, Brian Wildsmith. The cards were a little wide for my scanner, so a few of the illustrations are cut off a bit. We have the letters A-L today and tomorrow I will try to scan the rest to show you. Enjoy!

Hardcover with dust wrapper published by Oxford University Press in 1976. A brother and sister, Tyltyl and Mytyl, are visited one night by a strange old woman who at first sight resembles an acquaintance of theirs. She is a fairy, she tells them, and is searching for the Blue Bird which alone can restore health and happiness to a girl who is ill. Will the children help her in her search?
Today's vintage children's book from 1963 is a classic fable, The Lion and the Rat, illustrated by Brian Wildsmith. I'm a big fan of Brian Wildsmith and his loose, color filled illustrations. Great moral in this story too, that you don't have to be big and powerful to make a difference.
