It’s really hard to get a bullet journal to last exactly one year. Most of the time you’ll run out of pages until you get to the end of the year. The good news is, it’s not the end of the world when this happens. You just start a new one! So I’m starting a new bullet journal for October. What Journal to Use? I got another Archer & Olive because I can’t imagine using anything else. Check out my full review on their notebooks. Of course, if you weren’t 100% happy with the journal you used, now is the perfect time to try something new! Some other popular brands are: Scribbles That Matter, Leuchtturm1917, Rhodia, and Dingbats. What spreads to include? When I set up a mid-year journal, I don’t transfer ALL of my […]

Can you believe that it is almost February already? With one month down already I feel as though this year is going to fly by! To help me keep on track throughout February I have set up a very simple monthly layout! And when I say simple, I mean really simple.. my whole monthly layout is on just one page... one page! Although just the one page, I have included the template for the layout at the bottom of the post for anyone who may be interested! I never thought I would have a monthly set up on just one page but I really wanted to go right back to the bare minimum this month. I am hoping by having just one spread I will be able to see which monthly spreads I really do need and which spreads I just include because I like how they look. If I add any additional spreads throughout the month I will be sure to update you all in next month's set up post! Header Other than my actual monthly spread I have put in a header page, and I have a secret, I didn't draw this mandala! Well, I did physically draw the mandala but I only traced it!! I just love seeing mandalas in bullet journals but I am not a very good drawer or doodler at all. I am so bad that it actually puts me off trying to draw, so this month, desperate to have a mandala somewhere in my monthly layout, I decided to print a mandala from google, cut it out and trace it into my bullet journal! It's such a simple and quick way to add a mandala to your bullet journal! No need to measure and work out what will fit where, but simply print, place under your page and trace! If any of your are like me and more comfortable with straight lines than free hand drawing I would totally recommend giving this a try! It's stress-free and so quick! I just love this page so much and am thrilled with how it turned out. I will be adding colour to this throughout the month on days when I just need some relaxing colouring! It might be worth noting here though that I use the Leuchtturm1917 notebook where I am able to see the printed mandala through the paper so I can trace straight onto my page. If you are using a bullet journal with a thicker paper this may not be so easy, if this is the case I would recommend grabbing some tracing paper and tracing the mandala that way! Monthly layout Now to the one and only spread this month! The layout has three sections; a monthly overview, detailed goals and a tracker. The boxes to my monthly overview are the same size as in my January setup (you can see that post here) but without the added space between boxes. Having joining boxes gives you so much extra room if you are trying to save space and add additional elements to the page! To the right of the monthly overview, there is a goals section. I wanted to add more detail to my goals this month so with that in mind I have my 5 main goals and have broken each one down into specific elements that need to be completed in order to achieve the goal. Once an element has completed I will colour the box so I am able to see how close I am to meeting my goals! Underneath the monthly overview is the trusted habit tracker. Just like last month, I will be tracking areas that relate to my goals and colouring in each day when a certain element has been completed. So although just one page, I guess I actually have three spreads on one page! I like having everything all on one page and I am curious to see if there are any monthly spreads that I find I really need as the month goes on. If you are finding all your monthly pages overwhelming I would totally recommend giving this a try and starting from the bare minimum. It will help you identify the spreads you need as opposed to the spreads you like - something I am guilty doing every month! The last thing I want is for my bullet journal to become a chore and I think this is the best way to stop this from happening. What do you think? As always, the template is below for anyone curious on the layout in the Leuchtturm1917 A5 notebook! Template

The bullet journal is a flexible organizational system that can be tailored to fit anyone’s needs. We have to make two confessions. First: if you work here, you don’t pay for notebooks. Like, ever. As long as we don’t flagrantly burn inventory, we can experiment and play around however much we want. It's the best way for us to know our stuff. Second: even though we could have tried bullet journaling any time before now, and quite literally for free, it took us THIS LONG to give it a fair shot. Consider this article our mea culpa and subsequent PSA on what a bullet journal could do for you. NOW WITH MORE! After two months of bullet journaling, we came back to report on our BuJo experience. Just look for the same color further down the page! Given the sparkly, perfect-looking examples in places like BuzzFeed—which, of course, get the most attention—we almost dismissed the whole bullet-journaling thing as a frivolous hobby or look-at-me trend. After all: we'd say we write in our notebooks to dig to the bottom of things, not to polish the surface of them. Just out of pure curiosity, how old are you guys? :-) A post shared by JUDY ☁️🐝🌿✨🌻 (@focusign) on May 8, 2017 at 7:04pm PDT It’s very possible, if you’re reading this, that you’ve had a similar thought. But here’s what we’ve discovered: bullet journaling is somewhat like beer (or wine). Both the worst AND best examples can scare newcomers away—the worst because they're messy and harsh, the best because they're pretentious and pricey. If you like beer or wine, we’re betting there was a time (probably right near the beginning) when you didn’t like or “understand” it. But then you had some fun, you figured out what you liked and why, and now here you are. Same thing with bullet journaling: you can start anywhere, but you just need some context or guidance, and then you can find your own way to satisfaction. The First Things to Know “Bullet Journaling” is a reasonably accurate and descriptive name—though admittedly, it doesn't roll smoothly off the tongue. For the name, the essential thing to understand is that a bullet journal is intended for short, concise notes (i.e. bullets) and usually not for longhand prose. Side note: The common abbreviation is BuJo, in case you were wondering. Side note to the side note: If you’re Googling on the subject, make sure you spell BuJo correctly. “BJ guides” will not yield the intended search results. The next thing to understand is that a bullet journal is meant to be a multi-function book which doesn't require (perfectly) linear use. In other words: not every page will serve the same function as the last, and you won't always finish one page before moving to the next. We’ll get into some details below, but for now, just think of a bullet journal as several collections of notes kept in parallel, rather than a single collection kept in sequence. Since bullet journals are multi-functional, another crucial point: it is entirely up to you how your bullet journal functions. You’re not “doing it wrong” if you veer away from popular examples. We do encourage you to check out what others do since it’ll give you tons of ideas, both useful and creative. (Scroll down for our links to recommended reading.) But remember: whatever you do, it only has to make complete sense to YOU. Source: Fix.com Blog Finally: remember that this is an iterative process, one that you will adjust through repeated experience. Bullet journaling, like so many other hobbies and habits, becomes more natural and “broken in” once you’ve gotten a few laps into it. By the time you start your second bullet journal, the daily time with it will seem automatic and you’ll have a whole head full of ideas for starting again (or so we’re told). Typical BuJo Starting Points As we've said, you can adjust much of this—but to start with good footing, it's worth knowing some of the common functional pieces and
