About The Artwork My work is organic abstraction, inspired by but not imitating nature. I am interested in how patterns repeat themselves in different scales and materials through out the natural world. This piece is inspired by how things grow or erode in layers. The natural world and moments of tenderness merge in Lincolnshire-based artist Nichola Theakston’s expressive sculptures. Serene mammals sculpted in terracotta and cast in bronze characterize a tranquil animal world in which they relax, reflect, and dream. “The notion that an individual creature may experience some spiritual dimension beyond its instinctive animal behaviours is the premise behind much of my work,” she explains in a statement. With half-closed eyes or faces turned skyward, each portrait is an intimate exploration of feeling and empathy. More
Another word for elegance would be grace. We see that in this ceramic vessel by Vanessa Quintana. The way the clay is shaped suggests change and movement, the edges of the pale clay dancing over the…
Drawing inspiration from sinuous lines found in nature, Mari-Ruth Oda’s sculptures instil a sense of calm and fluidity in the eye of the beholder. Her sculptures are light, airy and curvaceous, reminding me of other-worldly and ephemeral shapes found only in our dreams or in our thoughts. At a glance, these sculptures look like wisps
The debate on whether a design is good or bad is a never-ending one. From terrible public space "solutions" to ideas so bad, it’s hard to believe someone came up with them, we've covered plenty of the latter over the years. So how about we balance out the scales a little bit?
Award winning artist Nick Mackman explains how she models a pet cat sculpture commission for a client from the United States.
The ceramic sculptures of Hitomi Murakami tether humanity to nature in a way that appears both elegant and chilling. Her figures grow from vegetation and are consumed by it, exposed and writhing. Works such as “Land of Root,” in contrast, seem more connected to wonder.
About The Artwork This artwork is currently exhibited at Palazzo Gio' Imperiale, Genoa. The characteristics of the statuary marble are sometimes the presence of small gray dots and shaded streaks, ranging from brown to gray. Being able to get the best marble in Carrara is not easy, since there are so many deposits and sawmills that is easy to get lost. Once I had tried to go to the quarry, but on those streets, the car grazes with truck loaded with block of marble so I renounced. Anyway I go to the sculptors school of Carrara who always have the statuary. About the sculpture: the whole surface is uniformly smooth and polished.
