Sew a beautiful Chandelier Quilt Pattern with just 3 yards of fabric! This fabulous quilt design is so popular, but I couldn't find a single pattern for a 3 yard Chandelier quilt... until now! I had so much fun designing a Chandelier quilt for you that only takes 3 yards of fabric. This free quilt pattern makes a throw quilt that is approximately 48'' x 59'' with 8'' Chandelier quilt blocks.

I'm excited to be sharing this quilt with you as part of Amy's Creative Side - Blogger's Quilt Festival. I have always wanted to create a ROYGBV quilt and it finally came together this year. This is also hanging at Fall Market in the Island Batik booth using their new fabrics from the Sea Salt Sandy Collection. My quilt design is called "Dangling Diamonds" and uses Bella Nonna Design Studio's Boondoggle Rulers. The pattern, with several bonus Quilted in Honor themed patterns, will be available Nov. 1 after its release at Int'l Quilt Market or can be ordered hard copy from me directly or ask your local quilt shop to carry them. Here are a few details of how I quilted it. With all the angles in the piecing, I wanted to create some twirling effects. I created a card stock template of this shape and traced it into each large background diamond as I went. It is with a purple disappearing ink pen, so it doesn't stay there long. For the colored diamonds I used matching metallic thread. The center diamond was marked with disappearing ink to give me a registration point for the center, the rest used some straight rulers but a lot of freehand and eyeballing to keep it fairly consistent. Ultimately the key here--loosen the top tension to almost nothing! In the small diamonds, I used this curved ruler to create a consistent arc, then freehanded the rest. I used two layers of 80/20 bleached batting. I love the relief where it is NOT quilted. Backside! I have three sets of blocks going for the Rainbow Scrap challenge. This month the color is GREEN so I made some green chandelier blocks this week. The free pattern came from Stitch Therapy and the block size is 6" finished. I probably have more green scraps than others, but while digging through the three little bins this week, I realized a lot of them are dark, or grayed out. Maybe I've culled out the brighter clearer greens over the years. This pattern calls for small pieces which is nice, for a mix of pattern, tone, and availability. If possible I try to cut something close to the size I need, so stingy with fabric when I have so much! It's just when you see a cute pattern like the cow or light bulbs, you hate to cut into a big usable piece to get a 2" or 3 1/2" piece. Still... a quilt needs cuteness. It needs to sing! I'm using up scraps, plus scraps from the beige/white bin. It's finally getting small enough to close the lid! After the Valentine quilt and two of the RSC blocks this time! Kind of nice to whittle it down a bit. I mean one doesn't want to use up anything totally, right? In case that fabric would be perfect for the next landscape, or gemstone, or whatever! So when done, I pulled out the red, and yellow blocks and put them up to see how it might go together. Crikey! Now I see I'll have to make some decisions... keep colors together in lines? or Mix them up? Get a bigger design wall? I hope this turns into an actual bed quilt to use in summer and we have a King mattress. I've never paid a long arm quilter but because this is set on point, I am not sure if I want to quilt it myself in sections... which will be yet another decision to make. linking to Esther's blog Wednesdays Midweek makers wednesdays design wall Mondays at smallquiltsanddollquilts lovelaughquilt.mondays oh Scrap Sundays scrap happy Saturdays sewcanshe Saturdays
