I have to believe that the man in this daguerreotype was a figure of some importance. At least I think he assumed that he was. The mat is the most elaborate on any of our cased images. He is in a very nice leather case with a vase of flowers embossed on it and the red velvet pad has a similar motif. Unfortunately there is no identification of the photographer or sitter.
