We spent a long weekend in North Wales in July 2017, and this just about gave us enough time to pay a flying visit to the lakes and mountains of Snowdonia. This beautiful valley - the Dyffryn Mymbyr Valley - is where the Mymbyr lakes are located in a beautiful spot on the outskirts of Capel Curig in the Snowdonia National Park. This place is blessed with one of the best views in Snowdonia - the dramatic Snowdon horseshoe which is situated to the west, and can be seen in the far distance.
Given the clear forecast we had I met up with a good friend to shoot some nightscapes over Llyn Mymbyr which has been lovely and still all day. Taken shortly after twilight fell, the mist was still rising off the lake as the temperatures slowly fell to freezing as the night drew in. A lovely corner of Snowdonia to admire the night-sky from!

When I took this shot in September 2012 I could never have guessed that I was looking down on what in less than nine months would become my home. What a place to wake up every morning...I may never go on holiday again!

Climbed Tryfan's north ridge (the one in view) the previous day in mist. We were going to do Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr too, but the weather wasn't good enough. This walk was up the south ridge of Pen yr Ole Wen (nice, easy scrambling), descending to the east. Fantastic viewpoint for the Glyders. www.lakelandphotographs.co.uk/
Ok, so it's still high summer, but the past few days have hinted that it might be on the wane. There is something, albeit ever so subtle, in the air...

A climb of about 2000ft brought me to this location, somewhere I had visited some years ago while walking and scrambling with a friend. I knew that if there was any late light it would fall on Tryfan but I was really fortunate with the amount of cloud and how it flowed up and over the peak.
