nat kirkman For those of you following along on my last few posts you will know that the theme I have been writing on is" Elements in a Classical Landscape". With that said, the fourth element and for me the most exciting one is Water. Water, first used by the ancient world for irrigation weaving its way though fields of agriculture creating pattern upon pattern of design. Over time this gave way to the decorative pools and ponds we know today. Water adds a decided element of classic traditionalism to any landscape. It adds the energy and intensity needed for a good design . It has the ability to create calm and tranquility as well as light and life. It offers sound as well as repetition with its reflecting of nearby elements. It adds movement as well as life to its surroundings. It also has the ability to cool the atmosphere around it dropping the temperature by degrees. No matter what the size or source water magnifies and enriches the pleasure of the gardens around it. van vleck garden faux hemian ave of 100 fountains sheepdog rex chelsea garden show turbotwister glorup manor denmark juniperhill land8 thinking outsidethe box veranda versaille tumbeler pinterest pinterest pinterest pinterest flicker alexis sorbus monica wolfe vicki archer If you would like to add a more Classical feel to your garden please contact me for further information at [email protected]

I don't usually do garden posts. I have a black thumb, pulling weeds makes me very grumpy, and I am just plain not into it. However, my sister keeps insisting that gardening is just like interior design, only with natural elements. You still have to consider texture, color, shape, size, etc... You know what? She's right! Even though it gives me a headache to do yardwork, I do love/appreciate/enjoy a beautiful garden, so here are a few elements that I find particularly magical: Water features... Potted fruits... (ahem, notice that I am drawn to hot weather fruits that are impossible to grow in the Pacific NW!) Espaliered branches and vines... Inviting walkways, ideally in full bloom... What makes a garden enchanted for you? Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Sources

I don't know about all of you, but I love a good fountain. They can be so unique and so stunningly beautiful. Sometimes, they can even be straight up bizzare. Life In The Fast Lane has created a great post containing all different types of fountains, all of which are visually interesting. http://www.lifeinthefastlane.ca/worlds-most-bizarre-and-intriguing-water-fountains/art...

Saignon fountain in Provence, Fra Fountains of fluid beauty Gravity and water are a marriage made in heaven, a source of eternal captivation in waterfalls and fountains, providing both a visual and sound ambiance of delight. The calm inducing qualities and natural serenity created by a water feature made fountains an essential decor addition at many great palaces, gardens and villas. The ancient Greeks were the first to use aqueducts and gravity-powered fountains to distribute water. Prior to this, large carved stone basins were employed to collect and act as a distribution point for their precious water along with
