Paola Epifani, alias Rabarama, was born in Rome in 1969. She received her BFA from Venice Academy of Fine Arts in 1991 and immediately started entering her work in sculpture competitions, in Italy and abroad. Towards 2011, Rabarama switched her focus to DNA and genetics. Her figures, which previously had shown no aspirations whatsoever and had just conveyed a status quo, underwent a further metamorphosis; they rip off the skin-wrapping they had been covered in from the beginning, symbolizing the need to cast off their casing, in the relentless attempt to free themselves, an exhausting and never-ending struggle. The next stage of her journey consisted in the creation of men-trees covered in bark and interwoven grass. Her production became quite eclectic, including terracotta sculptures, painted bronze, pieces in marble and glass, oil paintings, resin inclusions, artistic gold jewels, recent rubber monotypes and graphics. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Chinese Modern Biennial in Beijing, the Millennium Monument Art Museum in Beijing, and la Estancia Cultural Centre in Caracas.

Based in Richmond, Virginia artist Morgan Herrin transforms the most humble material—laminated construction grade 2x4s—into spectacularly detailed figurative sculptures. His choice of imagery is surreal: a noble 15th century knight melts into a network of dripping stalagmites or a classical marble bust that is overgrown with parasitic sea creatures. The resulting works are a fascinating juxtaposition of material and subject matter that require up to a year of labor to produce. Of the untitled knight piece Herrin says: Untitled (Knight) is the product of the combination of two subjects: 15th century plate armor, and geological cave structure. More
From the first time Neanderthal man held aloft a lump of clay contemplating what he could use it for, he more then likely posed the question ... functional or decorative? ' Will I make a bowl for eating my nuts and berries or should I indulge my creativity and make a clay statue of my beautiful wife. How about a sun-dial so I don’t sleep in. Maybe I could do some raku, but first I have to figure out how to make fire....' On a more serious note, clay figures have been around for a very long time and
