Nick at FIDM SF Open House 2014---Nick Verreos with FIDM San Francisco 2014 Open House attendees This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of flying to San Francisco to make a "Special Appearance" at the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising San Francisco campus and their 2014 Open House. After moving from Caracas Venezuela during my adolescent years, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area--"The Peninsula", to be exact--and so, it's always a fun treat to come back to my old stompin' grounds of San Francisco! FIDM San Francisco is located right in Union Square--a perfect location in the "nucleus" of SF Fashion! Hello FIDM San Francisco: The FIDM Open House is an event that allows incoming students and anyone thinking of attending FIDM to tour the campus, check out the facilities, meet instructors and alumni, as well as get to know the "FIDM" environment. As a bonus of the Open House--and as the FIDM Official Spokesperson (and Alumn)--I did a "Special Appearance" and speech to the FIDM San Francisco Open House attendees. Right when I walked in, I made sure to take a photo of everyone in attendance--FIDM San Francisco 2014 Open House Nick Lecture: During my "appearance", I spoke of how I got to where I am--in terms of my career-- and how FIDM was my "trampoline". I also talked about many other things and gave my "Nick Advice" on how to succeed at FIDM and in the Fashion Industry--and beyond! Pic Collage Time: Nick Verreos MC'ing the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Shows last Thursday and Friday, Barker Hangar Santa Monica Last Thursday and Friday, I had the pleasure (and REALLY FUN time!) of MC'ing the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Shows. FIDM's annual DEBUT Runway Show attracts nearly 10,000 people over three days and features designs by graduating students in FIDM's Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study programs, as well as work from Interior Design, Digital Media, and Textile Design students. The extravaganza concludes on the third night with the DEBUT Runway Show & Gala, a scholarship fundraising event attended by industry notables, FIDM Alumni, and fashion celebrities. Presenting...Nick Verreos! Making my Runway Stage entrance--with my NIKOLAKI and NV Nick Verreos EVINE Live-dressed models in tow--FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Show, Barker Hangar Santa Monica For the last several years, DEBUT has been held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. In addition to the industry, the runway show is also attended by high school students from around the country, friends and family of the graduating students, fellow FIDM Students, and FIDM Staff and Faculty. I was so excited to MC the FIDM DEBUT Runway show once again... I showed a printed twist-knot draped asymmetrical jersey dress worn by Michelle as well as a "Moto" black and white jacket, black jersey top and black jersey track pants--worn by model Katrina Hunter--that will be part of my launch on Saturday May 30th on EVINE Live! Nick Verreos--holds up a FIDM t-shirt to be won at the FIDM San Francisco 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" Continuing with my FIDM 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" (a FIDM "Summer Fashion Camp" where High School students get to enjoy draping, sketching, shopping + much, much more!) blogs--last Wednesday I began my appearances at FIDM Orange County and now, I was off to San Francisco!!! Last Thursday, I flew to one of my favorite cities in the USA (and the world!), to make a "Special Appearance" at the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising San Francisco campus. Nick Verreos--FIDM San Francisco 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" It's always a treat to fly up North from LA to SF since A) I grew up in the Bay Area and, B) I just LOVE the FIDM San Francisco campus and everyone who works there. Chic Mobile: On my departing Virgin America flight off to SF, I took a photo of my airplane (I'm an airplane aficionado, don't judge!), and didn't realize until I focused on my photo, that the aircraft I was flying on was named "Chic Mobile". Seems very appropriate for me to be flying on this airplane :) I love a "Chic Mobile"! Arriving into SF: Here's the token San Francisco Cable Car pic (of course!). The weather in San Francisco was wonderful, clear and had that "natural air-conditioning" --not too warm and not too cool. Monaco Classy: As always when I am in San Francisco, I stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco on Geary Street. My room was colorfully appointed as always, and the staff had a surprise once I returned to my room after my event: a bottle of red wine and chocolate bonbon's and a "Thank You for staying with us" card from the manager. Hashtag Classy. Did I mention I LOVE Hotel Monaco?? If not, I just did. My Event: Arriving: Nick Verreos arriving at the FIDM San Francisco campus for the 2014 Summer Program "3 Days of Fashion" Special Appearance--the FIDM SF campus is located right in the heart of SF's Union Square--a shopping, fashion and style mecca. Say FIDM! There were 150+ attendees at this final day of FIDM San Fracsico's 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" and I was happy to take photos with them--FIDM San Francisco 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" Show Time: As part of my appearance, host/emcee/FIDM 3 Days of Fashion Hottie McHottie Nate Duncan moderated the day, asking me questions about my "Road to Fashion", why I attended FIDM, how I got the most out of FIDM, as well as helped me introduce my NIKOLAKI Collection designs that I brought with me as part of a special "FIDM San Francisco 3 Days of Fashion" runway show... MKT's manager--who just happened from Venezuela (where I was raised), recognized me and is a big "Project Runway/Under The Gunn" fan...and she was kind enough to send Champagne to our "FIDM 3 Days of Fashion table". Muchisimas Gracias MKT! SF Pride: I was sad to leave San Francisco to go back home to Los Angeles after such a wonderful time. The San Francisco Pride Weekend was just beginning coincidentally so I was especially sad that I could not partake in any of those celebrations...maybe next time! San Diego Style: Nick Verreos "Special Guest Appearance" at FIDM San Diego 2015 "3 Days pf Fashion" Hope everyone had a wonderful--and very safe--July 4th Weekend. As you may know (if you have been keeping up with my blog here), for the last two weeks I have been traveling to all the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM campuses for this year's "3 Days of Fashion" Summer Program. Finishing my Blog Recaps of the FIDM "3 Days of Fashion", it's time for FIDM San Diego! 3 Days Nick: Nick Verreos at FIDM San Diego 2015 "3 Days of Fashion" It's always nice to visit the FIDM San Diego campus: my partner--David Paul's--family lives in San Diego so he gets some "family time", and that's always wonderful. In terms of the event, this year's "3 Days of Fashion" was extra special because it was held in the penthouse (15th floor) of the building where the FIDM San Diego campus is at. A DELISH Welcome to San Diego: Wine, cheese, pita bread and berries--My Welcome at Solamar Hotel Kimpton Hotels Petco Park, San Diego In case you don't know, the San Diego campus is right NEXT TO Petco Park (Hello!), and in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in San Diego--the Downtown Gaslamp District. Lots of students attended this year's "3 Days" Summer program and for my appearance, I also brought some of my NIKOLAKI gowns and NV Nick Verreos EVINE LIVE designs....
