As a new graduate of Chicago Art Institute, John Frank moved to Norman, Okla., in 1927 to establish the first Ceramic Art Department at the University of Oklahoma. Working on various geological digs, he discovered the rich clays of the region and set up a studio using a butter churn to mix the clay and a fruit jar to grind the glazes. Afternoon on April, 20th 2021 (2021), by French artist Valérie de Sarrieu. Oil on canvas, 10.63 in. x 13.78. in. Sold unframed. In this series of pieces painted from nature, the artist catches the changing beauty of the landscapes of Occitanie: from the Pyrenees summits to countryside of Comminges. She tries to reproduce as faithfully as possible the lights of the landscapes she observes at different moments of the day, and in different seasons. The importance of light and the effect of time brings Valerie de Sarrieu’s work closer to a photographic project for which it is important to capture a short moment.

I purchased this $3 rusty shovel at a garage sale this morning. I'm going to make another rusty shovel garden sign.
I decided to make an easy scene for the third card for March classes next week with the wonderful Waterfront set. I stated with a white square and stamped off with the Crumb cake ink for the sand. I then stamped off for the Pool Party and Island Indigo water. I stamped full on for the Crumb Cake trees trunks and the Wild Wasbi palms plus the Island Indigo beach houses. I used Crushed Curry for the sun and pick a great sentiment from the same set stamped in Island Indigo. I framed it with another square in Indigo then layered it on a piece of Pool Party embossed with the new Simple Stripes emboss folder. I added more Island Indigo behind before placing on the Crumb Cake base. I used some retired thick Whisper White twine to finish it off. I hope you enjoy your weekend and thanks for stopping by! In 1933 he started his own company, following his dream to create a line of fine art ware and sculpture that people of everyday means could afford to enjoy. A year later, Frank’s wife, Grace Lee, suggested that the company name should incorporate both their family name and the last letters of their state. The company officially became Frankoma Pottery in 1934. Frankoma pieces made since 1954 sport a red clay from Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and are prized collectibles. Frankoma Pottery survived the Great Depression, fires, and bankruptcy, before selling the business in 1990. The new owners continued under one of Frank’s daughters leadership until 2010.
