Update: 😪sadly, due to quarantine, I had to take this product off the shop. It isn’t virtual-friendly, but if you are interested, 😂message me on Etsy and I can bring it back as a custom order for you. Thank you! ******************************************** Aaaah this has been in the works for SO long and I am so excited to share it with you! This was such a fun product to create last year, and it was the first one that got my (back then) brand new Etsy shop on the map and on some people's radar as a place for beautifully designed Latter-Day Saint teaching resources. It has been such a year of transformation and growth since that shakily hand-lettered scribble-filled packet full of doodles and good ideas, design-wise! As I learned (and continue to always learn) the art of graphic design this year, I knew that any second try would yield better results than the original teach the theme printables, but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to come up with fun activities, games, and messages again. But inspiration and great ideas came (no doubt with a lil heavenly help 😂) and I can truly tell y'all that this is a pretty amazing packet! I ended up totaling the pages to see if it was a number worth bragging about and the calculator said 46 (If I ever claim to have done math without one, don't trust my findings!) and... I think that's a good number! I'll let the pictures serve as previews of all the good stuff inside and explain a little more about everything you'll get with your purchase below! This picture makes an... attempt to convey everything in this packet. There is a lot that I couldn't fit on one little Pinterest picture, but I feel like it also does a good job of showing the theme, which was sooooo fun to create! Officially, it's "The Search for Spiritual Treasure," and aesthetically, it's where the Book of Mormon tropical fun scene, a treasure hunt vibe, and the faintest hint of a pirate look meet. It has super fun colors, and it is gender neutral so you can use it with YM & YW. Oh yeah ofc also there are so many ways to use this! Our classic ward activity is this super fun kickoff night party thing, but we have made sure to design it so that it works as a BYD, 5th Sunday lesson, or fun girls camp experience. And it has also been created in a way that has an option for the youth to lead! I love this because I feel like lately in the church there has been such an emphasis on... -revelation. Think President Nelson -- "It will not be possible to survive spiritually without it" etc, and some, myself included, struggle at times to know exactly what revelation is, how to receive it, and like, will God ever talk to me?? Revelation is the heart of what this entire activity is about. There are three "units" (which aren't crazy long or anything, that's just what we're going to call it) which are all about seeking, receiving, and acting on personal revelation. -the youth leading things. This is so that your youth can teach the entire lesson. Invite your class presidency to pick one of the five sections and let him or her run with it. I've got enough structure to get the youth started, but enough leeway that he or she can make each section their own. The included planning pages and checklist will help youth and adult leaders coordinate for a smooth and successful event. -not watering everything down. When I teach, (and sometimes in general) I tend to always want to make everything one giant party. If it's not fun, why force people through it? If something's boring, why don't we just start having a more interesting discussion? But I've had to learn that there has to be a balance between super boring mega nap lectures and little kid parties when we teach the gospel. While making things fun has a great effect, we also don't want to make it at a level that they are spiritually way past at where they are, not able to feel the Spirit, and not learning anything, and it probably is harder for people to come out and say "Um y'all we gotta be a lil more serious" instead of "SIESTA TO FIESTA, NOW!!" This packet maintains a good balance between moments of fun and learning and moments of stillness and learning, if that makes any sort of sense. As I said before, there's the 3 teaching units! I also added in the closer because having 3 items wasn't super working aesthetically; in reality there are actually 5 parts to this: the introduction, unit 1, unit 2, unit 3, and a fun closer, which have all been carefully created to be fun and spiritually sustaining; I explain about them in more detail below. It's all about revelation y'all! This may seem random or strange, but as we discuss in the packet, revelation is at the heart of Nephi's famous words. Nephi didn't always understand why Lehi did what he was doing, or follow along blindly with his father's will. Which is no less noble of him and I think actually makes him a much more relatable figure, which is good. So how did he get from an average teen to the big BOM hero this activity is all about? He sought personal revelation. It's nearly impossible to understand what's going on with Nephi with the "go & do" phrase, even with the whole verse included. What is Nephi going to go and do? Yes, I know it's "what is commanded" but what is commanded? Where? When? Why? How? All you need to do is back up a few verses to be enlightened about the situation. As any person would be, Nephi is confused about the situation. "What's going on with Dad? Why do we have to move into the wilderness? I kinda like how things are now." His sibs feel the same, although it seems that the L bros are lil more vocal about their concerns. But what sets Nephi apart from them and puts him on a trajectory to be great? Again! As we read in 1 Nephi 2-3, he sought personal revelation. The Spirit witnesses to him that it is true, it is real, and that he should listen to his dad. So why is that personal revelation catchy crazy church buzzword what this packet is all about? It's what Nephi's faith journey and personal journey (and our own journeys) are all about, and it's an important topic to learn. That pic just details the organization of the packet a lil. There are lots of pages of teaching ideas, checklists, etc, that aren't the most graphic to be displayed but are key to creating a great activity experience. Seek it! Yay! If the intro activity is good, you'll have a better chance of keeping the youths' attention, at least, that's my logic and experience! People often set their expectations through beginning experiences, and I wanted to be sure that this activity had a good one! And so, it all starts with a game. This was soooo fun to make, and it's Book of Mormon themed. It's based off Spot It, super fun, super aesthetic and cute, just love how this game turned out. It was hard to create and engineer and everything, which makes it being completed that much more rewarding. And ofc there's a devotional for each section including this part to tie things in. But I wanted the very first thing they did to be smth super fun. And we're on unit 1! So fun! There was a lot of deep studying and poring over recent remarks from General Authorities, and I don't want to claim that they are all from the most recent one, bc I'm not 100% sure that every! single! quote! and teaching point came from there, but a lot really are. The fed but not nourished deer have a cameo, for example. After I rounded up a ton of relevant quotes I had to turn it into a fun activity, and I thought, what could be more appropriate for this topic than a treasure hunt? With the use of the giant treasure map (which is available as a poster or 4 8.5 x 11 pages) and special clues embedded within each important quote and lesson about seeking revelation, youth will gather information on where to find the spiritual treasure in the room. *Also, this is important, I'm not going to spoil where it is/what the clues lead to bc that would be lame, but it's not a church-specific object where the treasure will be hidden, it's a household item that anyone and all church buildings have. You can do this activity anywhere!* Unit 2 might be the climax of this whole thing, it's sooo good and I love how it turned out! Not to say that the other items aren't great, but receiving personal revelation is super important and a big skill to learn. You can't claim that God never talks to you if you don't know the ways God talks. As Albert Einstein said, (and I promise this is related!) "Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." It reminds me of the video about light, and I couldn't include it bc it had some topics that are fine for seminary age kids but might be a lil sketch to bring up with the little kids that are in the youth program nowadays... anyways, it's below, and it talks about how this dude thinks that if God is real, He will show Himself to the dude, and yeah, spoiler, it doesn't happen. He learns that revelation is a process requiring patience, something beautiful that happens over long periods of time as we attempt to step into God's glorious light. Also a lil sidetrack here, but this LDSLiving article about when you can't receive revelation is soooooo good and super related to this topic! Bottom line, revelation and receiving it are hot topics and they are heavily covered in this module with a scripture chase! It's pretty simple, but it's been dressed up a bit with cute printables. But it's also like super powerful tho. The foundation of this was taken from Preach My Gospel, so that we knew that all of these examples were doctrinally sound, especially because they cited where they came from in the scriptures. This is a super great section! And now it's time to act! This is a game that is designed to get the youth talking and having fun as they discuss ways to act in faith as demonstrated by Nephi's example in the theme. I really don't want to spoil what goes on in this one, but it's fun, it's a game, there's a ball 😂 as you can see above, and it includes quotes and connections to the recent General Conference. And then we have a great closer! Classic, I know, to end with an invitation to act, but that's what it's really all about, right? "The gospel of Christ invites us to become something," Dallin H. Oaks said. I feel like that's actually a little harsh, not his idea, just the way it was worded. We already are something amazing, a beautiful child of God! I think the point he was trying to make is that the gospel invites us to become someone new, which is a constant challenge and opportunity. This closing activity connects the Book of Mormon, goal setting, the theme, all sorts of fun stuff, and there's a super cute tag for treats. I think I've put out plenty of information about everything in this packet, maybe even more than most care to hear, but, gotta fully answer all questions! Now onto the next big project. After seeing my Girls Camp Pocket Post, you are probably wondering, "What are all the note cards in the pockets?" Well let me tell you...... They........ are.....SUNSHINE NOTES! My sister Candace came up with Sunshine Notes years ago, and they have become a tradition for her and I to initiate them into the different girls camps we are involved in. Simply place colored or white lined notecards on a picnic table with stickers, markers and pens; then watch the fun begin! The girls and leaders get sunshine and love through those notes to last them a LIFETIME! Everyone writes uplifting sweet messages, short and long, to just about everyone at camp. There is ONE rule! We give a warning at the start of camp, if there is ever ONE rude or mean remark on a note we stop all sunshine notes! This is a SAFE/ HAPPY place, there is no place for rude/negative comments. We are spreading SUNSHINE, not rain. It's sad we have to even warn them, but it's better to be safe than sorry. On a lighter note, we have NEVER had anything like this happen, but we always prepare the girls and leaders. Girls and leaders go away with a STACK of SUNSHINE at the end of camp. I bought over 1000 notecards last year and we RAN OUT! On the last day I was frantically cutting colored paper I just HAPPENED to have thrown in a tub last minute, so girls could write their last sunshine notes! It was BEAUTIFUL. One girl told me that she put her sunshine notes up from last year as a border in her bedroom! One leader keeps them on a key ring and takes them with her in her purse. She pulls them out when she needs a little pick me up! THESE SUNSHINE NOTES BLESS LIVES! Our "Sunshine Note Station" was CONSTANTLY overflowing with girls and leaders writing sweet notes. Many leaders/girls took blank notecards back to their tents because there was NO ROOM for them at the table. Need more Girls Camp and Church Ideas? Click HERE! Questions to ponder and discuss "Careful versus Casual" by Sister Becky Craven
I had the opportunity to be the assistant Stake Camp Director this year, this was probably my most favorite camp I’ve been to, out of the 14 times I’ve gone! The director and I really wanted new things that the girls hadn’t seen before, so we worked really hard to come up with great classes and experiences for these girls, and we would like to share it for anyone that may be looking. Camp Theme Women Warriors We had 3 sub themes that we focused on each day Women of Faith, Women of Strength, Women of God Purpose of camp was to help the girls see that they could do anything the Lord asked them to do, and they can do hard things. We created a slide show with images of “Women Warriors” to introduce the theme. We talked about qualities of a warrior, then talked about REAL women Warriors in history, they did exist. They were rare, but powerful, usually impacting their tribe, or country for generations to follow. We based our decorating off of a Native American feel, kinda boho, which was trendy this year so it’s easy to find lots of things to go along with the theme. Tuesday: Women of Faith day, Warrior initiation day! The stake leaders and YCLs camp up Monday to get camp ready, and then we took them to the lake just to have fun for a couple hours. We had a jet ski, pontoon boat, lily pad and a ski boat. It was an awesome afternoon where we had a chance to bond with the girls a little that we didn’t know very well. Tuesday morning the wards arrived, we gave everyone time to find their cabins and then we had morning devotional and camp orientation. Then we started our activities. Women’s Self Defense class: This was totally awesome!! A sister in the stake teaches women’s self defense and she relates it to the gospel, being able to listen to the spirit is a huge part of her class, and she tweaked it perfectly to fit in with our Women of Faith day! Warrior endurance: (Short hike) We renamed everything for one to sound more exciting, for two, to keep a little mystery in the week, and for 3 so they didn’t see something like a hike or service project and have time to complain, it was just; here is this thing! I think it helped girls to just be in the moment. After lunch we had crafts and our spiritual/sit down class. Crafts: Only 2 crafts this year, dream catcher key chains, (SO cute!) and walking sticks (sticks harvested from my parents forest) First class was about having self confidence, and changing negative thoughts in your head to positive thoughts. Second class was about finding your “inner peace” like Po from Kung fu panda, we talked about meditation and did a guided meditation at the end. A couple hours of free time, and dinner, and then we had our evening devotional. YCL skit The YCLs had a skit for every night at camp that they had been working on, all continued from the night before and correlated with the daily theme. They were AWESOME!! It was like watching a mini episode every day! Then we did bag skits with each level. 4 leaders brought a bag of props and random items. Each level got to do one skit during camp. They got their bag of props and had 30 mins to come up with a short skit to preform that night at devotional. It was totally optional. It was just to give each of the girls an opportunity to get up in front of everyone if they wanted to. The girls had fun with it! Awards We gave out 2 awards each night. The clean cabin award, each day at a random time 2 of our leaders would look at all the cabins, the cleanest cabin got a cooler full of drinks for the night. This was a HUGE hit for the younger girls! It really made clean up a breeze on the last day! Girl on Fire award. This was EVERYONE'S FAVORITE!! Every day each girl and each leader got to submit one girl for girl on Fire. This was for anyone who you had seen go above and beyond, or stand out in any way. Every day after dinner, before devotional our two 18 year old leaders (who were the back bone to camp this year!! They weren’t YCLs, but they weren’t cabin moms, they were like the stake assistants. They were the runners. And they went from sun up, to way past sun down!! Seriously THE best!) they would read all the submission and pick 3 for the night. Any one that was really special they saved for the ultimate girl on fire on the last day. They played “this girl is on fire” and during the first verse they would read the girls who won, and what they had done, and the girls would come up to the stage, and then as we got to the chorus “THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE!” everyone erupted and sang and danced! And the energy was crazy exciting! Celebrating these awesome girls up on stage! This year we gave them each a water bottle filled with red and yellow wrapped candies, and a super cute dream catcher bracelet. Totally epic award!! So fun! After the crazy and the fun we had our spiritual thought given by one of the stake leaders each night, also correlating with the theme and events of the day, and then we would sing our theme song. I will have a separate post about that. This was one of my favorite thing about camp this year! Faith Walk After devotional we had our faith walk led by the YCLs. They each took a value and were stationed around the camp. The younger girls walked from station to station and got a mini devotional about the value and a woman Warrior from the scriptures that helped teach us about the value. This was quiet and reverent. They had jar lanterns for each group to carry with them. It was truly awesome to hear these Laurels bear testimony and fill us with the spirit station after station. They totally blew me away! We ended back in the chapel (our big in-door multi purpose room that was our main gathering place) where one YCL wrapped it all up. Glow in the dark games Each evening we had glow in the dark games for the girls and each morning we had early swim. These girls just kept going and going!! The activities after dinner and before breakfast were optional, but the girls LOVED them! We were very fortunate to have leaders that were available for kick ball, volleyball, swimming, and impromptu karaoke! I, on the other hand, was wiped out and had to opt out of the late and early festivities. So I was grateful for the leaders that were able to play with the girls! Wednesday: Women of Strength Warrior training day! We met at the fire pit for morning devotional before breakfast, for a quick spiritual thought, and blessing on the food. This is also when the camp director and I would get up and talk about the activities for the day. At breakfast we had face paint crayons and several simple options for the YCLs to choose from. They picked a design for their group, and during breakfast the YCLs put “war paint” on each of the girls. They all loved that! Our 4th years ended up with long mustaches. They are hilarious! Then we began our warrior training! Everyone rotated through archery, knot tying (classic old school girls camp certification), spear throwing, learning how to build a fire, and ultimate archery tag. We instructed the teachers of each rotation to tell the girls the things they do today will effect them tomorrow! That intrigued most of the girls. The fact that it was a race got leaked, but it was not what they expected! Spears The Spears were one of my favorites! It was the spear from the spartan race, you can get info on how to build and throw it on Pinterest. It was important that each girl learned how to throw the spear because during the race they were going to be expected to do it before their team could leave that station. To make a target the spear had to stick into the hay bale and the handle not touch the ground. 1 cm off the ground counted! Just so long at it did not rest of the ground. The more athletic girls got it right away and LOVED it! But the …less athletic girls ended up standing in the back ground. After about 20 Mins I asked who had not made a target. Hands slowly went up as eyes went down. They didn’t think they could do it. So we brought them all to the front and coached them individually. One girl would not follow through. So I told her when she throws it to stay there like a statue until the spear hit the target. She tried it the next throw and made her first target!! There was jumping and screaming and much high fiving!! That was EXACTLY what we wanted those girls to experience!! EVERY girls that stuck with it and tried and persisted was able to make a successful target! There was one girl, that I know of, that was unable to make the target. She threw it once and said “I can’t do it” and never tried again. Definitely a lesson to be learned in that! Archery Tag The archery tag was SO fun!! We also had a slack line put up next to it for the girls that were waiting to play. (That was for the race also but they didn’t know that) If you are interested in archery tag, you can buy the equipment your self off of amazon for about what we paid a professional to come in for 3 hours, FYI. After lunch we had our craft/spiritual class rotation. We had someone come in who I believe is a youth counselor, she specializes in working with kids that deal with anxiety and depression. Her class was AMAZING!! It was full of hands on demonstrations of what the brain can do! The girls really listened too! I could hear the things she taught come up in conversations through out the rest of camp! She just dropped into our lap at the prefect time! Someone needed that class, I have no doubt! Then free time, dinner, devotional, and evening festivities! Just like that day before. Fire competition: This is where the “training” started coming into play. One of our priesthood men took over the fire instruction class for us. That was not planned, it was spur of the moment, but he couldn’t have been more perfect! He is a physics teacher at a local school! He was amazing! We split the girls into their race teams for the next day, and gave them each a bag of kindling. They built their fires, and then we strung a piece a string above their fires with two wooden skewers. The object was to burn their string till it broke. This was the determining factor in the order they got to start the race the next day. Thursday: Women of God Warrior Adventure day! After breakfast we had the race! It was patterned after “The Amazing Race” but we did it to the theme of Lehi’s Dream. I will do a separate post on this as there was a LOT of moving parts, it was the most difficult thing at camp to plan and coordinate. It was “all hands on deck” that day! Everything that they had been doing and learning throughout the week came into play during the race! It was really cool to see everything come full circle and to see the girls put into action things they learned from their classes and activities! There was a slight mix up though. Each team was numbered. They had a series of 16 stations that they had to move through. At each station there was a challenge. Once they successfully completed the challenge, they got their next “Route info” ticket. Each of these tickets was numbered with their team number. The mix up happened when the teams went out the door for their first stop, some of them got the number of the order they were going out, the number of their placement from the fire competition, instead of their team number. Then at the stations they were given their team number and everything started to crumble! We had planned for 2 ½ to 3 hours for this activity, and 40 Mins into we had to stop the race and regroup. We ended up doing our 'after lunch' classes right then and moved the race to after lunch. During the classes we collected all the tickets and put them back into order and back in the correct envelopes for each station. My heart stopped a little when the race was falling apart, cause countless hours went into to making it work! And the girls WANTED to do it! But the other leaders rallied together and we got everything back in place! We started again after lunch and everything went prefect that time!! After the race was free time, and then BISHOPS NIGHT!! BISHOP’S NIGHT: I didn’t realize that this was more of a local tradition, but it has ALWAYS been the highlight of our girls camp!! Bishops are invited to join us for dinner and festivities of the evening. They are usually asked to participate in something in front of the girls. This year we made it a competition! We are hoping to start a new tradition. We made a small trophy for the winning bishop to keep on his desk in the bishops office. We bought a 4 inch “Captain Moroni” figurine cast in pewter. And fixed him on a small wood plaque with a little metal engraving “Girls Camp first place bishops night” with instructions on the bottom to bring it back next year to girls camp, to see if he can keep his title of 'first place' and reclaim the trophy! Since the girls learned SO much this week we wanted to give the bishops a shot. Points were awarded for each thing. First was a watermelon speed eating contest. The girls had to do this in their race. 1st 2nd and 3rd place were awarded points. Then it was the spear throw, not as easy as the little girls made it look! And then archery. Then we went inside for evening devotional and we did the awards ceremony with the added awards for the race. We made “medals” out of ribbon and candy. 3rd place got individual size candy, 2nd place got candy bar size, and 3rd place for movie candy size. We called them up and placed their medals around their necks. We presented the winning bishop with the trophy. I loved it because the bishop that won had JUST been called only a week or two in advance! It was a great way to establish that relationship with the girls! I was the speaker for the evening followed by our awesome stake president. I used the explanation of the t shirt design and the birth of our camp theme song as the basis for my devotional. Because it is exactly the point we wanted to get across to the girls this week. I will go into detail of the song in another post. To explain the T-shirt’s is just started talking about how we use symbols in the gospel. And how the Native Americans used symbols. I showed them a pic of a feather, which symbolizes trust, and strength. Then the symbol of the great spirit, or God. The symbol for brotherhood (or in our case sisterhood) and then we put our t shirt design up on the screen. Which is a combination of all of those symbols to create one simple design with not many words, but if you understand the symbols, it says Women Warriors Women of Faith (trust), Women of Strength, Women of God, and girls camp. When I threw the t shirt image on the screen the all erupted!! Mind blown! It was great! Testimonies After devotional we separated for ward testimonies with their bishops. Some had fire pits, some had tiki torches, cause we LOVE testimonies around the fire, but we did not have enough fire pits at the camp ground, so we improvised. And it worked pretty well! Then we had our Epic Dance party back in the chapel till midnight! So! Fun! And so exhausting! Lol and then some of our AMAZING stake leaders took the girls for a midnight swim!! Epic day! Last day was pretty low key. After breakfast we met for our closing meeting. We awarded the ultimate girl on fire awards, who got the water bottles AND blankets that we had made during the race. And then we watched a slide show video of the week! One of our 18 year olds collected pics from leaders and girls all week and made a totally awesome slide show!! We sang our theme song all together one more time, had a prayer and finished cleanup and check out. All in all it was a pretty amazing week!! We put a lot into it, and we would love to share to with anyone looking for ideas for camp.

Looking for Latter-day Saint mutual activities for youth? You have come to the right spot! Here are TONS of ideas for fun activities especially for group
🌎 Read This Post In: English | Español 🇪🇸 | Português 🇧🇷 Disclaimer: These ideas aren't all my own. Most are from past fun activities I have been to, all of which have been team efforts. I hope all my current and former leaders know how much I appreciate everything they planned for us. So... A year of activity ideas!! Pin your favorites. 📌 👉Want these in a PDF? Check this out in the shop. INTELLECTUAL ACTIVITIES 1. Cook for the missionaries Choose a target dish for the youth to learn to make. Bring supplies and tell missionaries dinner's on y'all for that night. Instruct them on making, serving + setting up the meal. Add time limits for suspense! 2. Photography night A photographer in the ward shared her tips on posing, selfies, lighting, group pictures, cameras, and more. It ended with a big photo shoot for practice. 3. Paint night One of our young women was close with her art teacher, so we brought the supplies and the expert showed us how to use them. So much fun that we've done this several times. You don't need anyone good at painting to lead the activity, though -- Pinterest and YouTube have so many tutorials as well! 4. Outdoor survival night We split into teams in the church parking lot and had to "fight to survive" through three stations: making a lean-to with a tree, rope, and tarp, building a fire without matches, and using a compass to find hidden treasure, and enjoyed s'mores. 5. Cake decorating night A sister in the ward is a professional caterer + baker and she showed us all the different icing and frosting mixing and piping techniques! It was sweet. 😉😋 6. Traveling Etiquette Dinner We went to three houses with different lessons and food at each one. First, we had appetizers and a lesson about dinner behavior, then we drove to the next house where we had dinner and talked about place settings. Finally, we went to the last house and talked about dating while having dessert. 7. International Foods Night Our youth group is so diverse and we have a lot of amazing girls that have joined us from different countries around the world. We set this up to let them teach us about their culture...and yes, to have lots of amazing food. It doesn't get better than that! 8. Friendship Bracelet Night We all wished we knew how to make friendship bracelets but felt intimidated by complicated techniques. So we learned to make them soooo easily, with cereal boxes!! All credit goes to this blog from Pinterest, we enjoyed using her tutorial. 9. Iron Chef Competition This was so fun it became a ward tradition. Gather mystery ingredients. Missionaries make great judges. The teams have an hour to make a master meal with what they have, learning resourcefulness and cooking from the older kids along the way. 10. DIY flip flops Relief Society tablecloth flat lay 🤣🤩 Cheap, useful, and cute. We bought $1 flip flops for each Young Woman, and decorated them with fabric ties, as per here. The goal was for everyone to have a pair of inexpensive flip flops they didn't have to worry about getting dirty at girls camp. 11. Tie dye night Everyone brought a white shirt and we folded and dyed them. Pretty easy and quick, try the tutorial here. We bought tie-dye colors but I've seen food coloring used before, from Pinterest ofc. 12. Band night Our bishop got each of the members of his band to teach a different "clinic" based on each instrument - voice, piano, guitar, drums, etc. The youth signed up for which instrument they wanted to do in advance. Instruments were borrowed. We all learned the different parts to one song and had a performance in the gym. 13. Time capsules night I've made printables for cute individual time capsules! What would also be so cute is a group time capsule - each class could make one with group photos of them, positive things they write about each other, their favorite church things, etc. 14. The Game of Latter-Day Saint Life We brought a Game of Life board and played, pausing for devotionals from different people at each spot (college or work first? marriage? kids? home ownership? money?) You can also make a custom Latter-Day Saint themed game board or a life sized game of LIFE. 15. Babysitting skills night A bunch of primary kids were invited. We were given a babysitting lesson before, and then put our knowledge into action as we played with the children. 16. Make-up Know How In a group of young women and their leaders, people qualified to teach makeup techniques it won't be scarce. This was fun for the younger yw who were just getting into makeup and for the older yw who could show off their talents. 17. Bread Making We learned how to make our own bread. We each had index cards to write the recipe on, but we did it step by step as the leaders demonstrated the process with us. Bread making can be intimidating, but thankfully Pinterest exists! Here's an idea to get you started. 18. Hairstyle night Learn to do Dutch, and French braids and have each girl bring her own brushes and hair ties so everything is sanitary. You can also go over curling and straightening hair, products everyone swears by, dos and don'ts, etc! 19. Modesty night We cut out paper dolls and made modest outfits for them with scrapbook paper. We discussed standing out from the world and being a light as we cut, pasted, and taped. A modest fashion show could also be fun! 20. Song night We've done this to prep for musical numbers, or to learn to sing a song. A way to make this more fun is to get a ukulele involved. Chances are that several of the youth know how to play (this has always been true for us at a given church activity) and gets them involved and everyone having fun. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES 21. Sledding If you have the weather and location, enjoy some fun in the snow and then some hot chocolate back at the church building. 22. Youth Pool Party This one is a classic, along with a BBQ! 💦 The leaders bring the most essential items (burgers, buns, plates, paper utensils) the young women bring the kind of essential items (salads, desserts, appetizers) and the young men bring the items that won't be too unfortunate for us to miss (sodas, chips, condiments etc) and it always works out. 🍔 23. Yoga Night We did this one outside + got some low impact exercise + fresh air. Dual yoga is also fun! 24. Cultural Dance Night A dance teacher from the ward taught us traditional dances from different world cultures. 25. Nutrition Night We learned how to make healthy green smoothies. You could also expand this to healthy meal ideas. 26. Color run We got everyone white shirts that said "let your colors shine." Then we sprinted around the church parking lot while the leaders tried to make us as colorful as possible. 🎨 27. Outdoor/backyard games night We played kickball + Spud, but other outdoor games are, of course, fair game. Ideas include Mother May I, What Time Is It, Missionary Tag, Blob Tag, Ghost in the Graveyard👻, Werewolf/Mafia, Sardines, or whatever y'all enjoy. 28. Glow In The Dark Volleyball This is what it looked like during the activity! 👇 For the first fifteen minutes, everyone got glowsticks + put them together as necklaces, bracelets, anklets, etc. We put glow in the dark paint on our volleyball and really enjoyed this fun twist on a classic game. 🏐 See the glow in the dark dessert table below! 29. Church gym sports When nonmembers ask why we all have gyms, this is one of the reasons. Volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, soccer, and more are all easy to plan + play inside in those cold winter months. 30. Self defense skills night One of the young women does karate + invited a member of her dojo to give everyone tips on basic moves to defend themselves and stay safe if attacked. 31. Nerf Wars The young men thought this would be fun. Tie in doctrinally to "avoiding the fiery darts of the adversary" or the "Samuel the Lamanite" story. 32. Life Sized Games Our ward has played life size Hungry Hungry Hippos and Battleship. The latter was when we did life size Battleship. We split into teams, put up a blanket in the middle, and everyone lay in different areas on the gym floor. While lying down, we would throw a light ball at each other over the barrier and if someone was hit, they were out. I found so many other cute life sized game ideas on Pinterest y'all could try, including Foosball, Clue, Guess Who, Connect 4, Operation, Angry Birds, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Jenga, Pac Man, Scrabble, Tic Tac Toe and Kerplunk. Woah, 15 weeks of creative combined youth activities. 😉 33. Group bike route In my old ward, there were SO many of us (easily 30+) and I still laugh out loud thinking about this one bewildered man walking his dog who saw this procession of dozens of women and girls zooming by on their bikes, and was like "who is this?" Having enough bikes for everyone can definitely be a challenge, but if you can round up a lot of extras or consult with parents first before planning, you could make it work! SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES 34. Watch Face2Face Addresses We always do this whenever they come out because our time zone has them dropping at 10 pm on a school night. You can even do this with old ones they've made. Give one of these a try. 35. Scripture canvas bags These are great for when your youth need to have + transport their heavy, irl scriptures--and y'all need a cute and crafty activity idea! We created ours with fabric markers + canvas bags. 36. General conference prep night We made trail mix to enjoy with our families and DIY notebooks -- dollar tree journals, with cut out pictures of the general authorities that we taped to the pages and used as tabs. 37. General conference review night I'm planning to blog about some fun games to do for this. For now, try a themed Kahoot or General Conference race! 38. Teach the Theme activity Every year we get a new one and every year I put together a package to help you make teaching it to your youth a fun and memorable experience! I ended up having to take the 2020 one down 😢 but I'll be back with another one when the creating-resources-for-the-theme-in-4-months frenzy returns. 39. FamilySearch Workshop Everyone brought a dessert from a country of their heritage and we enjoyed treats while our Youth Family History consultant gave us pointers on how to use the Family Search indexing program. We also did our best to make it fun by incorporating the "Find My Famous Relatives" database that BYU has. I also suggest this Coco family history activity I made! 40. Spiritual Journal Jars Talk about the importance of writing down your "Spiritually Defining Memories" (recently coined term, classic concept.) We decorated mason jars with washi tape, scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, and acrylics and then filled them with journal prompts + ideas. 41. Church escape room This photo is from a St. Patrick's day escape room I created for the group and let me tell you...never again!! The activity went well, and staying up so late working on it every night and going crazy making every detail perfect did not go to waste. But you don't have to become a martyr to host a good activity. Which is why I would suggest using a pre-made church themed escape room like the Hope of Israel one (we've tested and enjoyed) or this general church themed one that is sure to excite, amaze, and promote teamwork skills! 42. Primary song helps Make cute visual aids to help the kids learn their primary songs, helping your busy chorister save energy and time. Win win! 43. Cleaning the nursery We got on our gloves, turned on our Disney music, and disinfected every last nursery toy. This was pre-corona, but I have a feeling this might become more frequent when we're back at church again. 👀😂 44. Family History Campfire Everyone shared one funny/entertaining story from their family history, in the RS room with the lights off and flashlights and lanterns on sitting around this fake fire--which was so hilarious--red, orange and yellow tissue paper crumpled up in a casserole dish. 45. Missionary life skills night RMs set up a bunch of different stations with rapid fire lessons on missionary (but honestly also) life skills they wanted the youth to review/learn--ironing, shining shoes, cooking, sewing (for repairs)--and talked about their mission experiences while we did those chores. 46. Pioneer life skills night Set up different stations with different pioneer skills (making butter, hauling firewood, milling flour, grinding wheat, pulling a handcart) and honor their sacrifice and legacy. 47. Investigator Trailer Night We were put into companions and a bunch of the leaders went into different classrooms around the building, acting as the different stereotypical types of investigators when we "knocked on their doors." (Golden, nice but not interested, angry, etc). Discuss how missionary work is hard but rewarding and your converts, baptisms, results etc don't determine your success but your perseverance and positivity do. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES 48. Personality Party We decorated with Disney Princess Personality Posters, and had everyone take a free MBTI test. We played games that helped us to know how to better minister to and get along with our fellow leaders + young women. Posters, handouts, activities, etc, are here! 49. Speed Friendshipping Everyone writes creative, funny, or even deep questions on slips of paper. Create concentric circles with the folding chairs, and have one circle rotate so everyone gets to "friendship" everyone. They get a time limit to go through as many questions as they can. 50. Caroling for the elderly Every year at Christmas, we sing carols at an assisted living home and enjoy hot chocolate afterwards. 51. Heart Attack This has always been received so well and is a Valentine's Day classic. Spread the love! 52. Cookies + Cards We made valentine's day cookies and cards and delivered them to our ministering sisters. 53. Friendship Dinner We did this over the span of three activity nights and it had a Valentine's Day theme. The idea was to make a dinner connecting youth with those who were old/lonely in the ward for a night of ministering and fun. First, we delivered invitations with cookies to the invited. The next week, we decorated the gym for the event. The final week was the dinner. 54. Make fleece tye blankets Service projects really don't get much easier than this--buy some fleece, cut two equal pieces, and then a fringe. Tie each fringe together while you chat, and donate the finished blankets to a good cause. 55. Gratitude scavenger hunt I created a Thanksgiving themed escape room/scavenger hunt activity that is so cute and will be available in the shop when the holiday approaches. 56. Daddy-Daughter Showdown Super fun Father's Day activity with three main events: the dads stood behind a chalkboard and we had to guess whose was ours, we drew pictures of them they had to guess which one was them, and then the big finale was us having to tie their tie and them having to paint our nails. 57. Disney lip sync battle One of our favorite activities EVER. Young women versus young men -- we rehearsed separately to face off and ended up choosing the exact same song! Super fun, easy, and hilarious. 58. Taking Photos of Graves Easy service project to organize -- index graves for BillionGraves, which has an easy to use mobile app. 59. Mall Scavenger Hunt We split into teams with leaders as the captains and were dropped off at our local mall. The team to take group photos with every item on the list and make it back to the church first were the champions. 60. Making gift boxes for Samaritan's Purse In this Christmastime activity, everyone brought cute gift items from 5 Below, Dollar Tree, etc. We got our assignments from Samaritan's Purse Ministries and put together and decorated boxes for them. 61. Bulletin Board Making Putting together a bulletin board, whether organically or with a printable kit, is a lot of work. We did it together for one of our activities. You could also do it as a service project for a busy (primary, rs, etc) leader at the beginning of the year. Bonus points if you use one from the shop! _____________ Whew! We made it. But before you dash, I want to make sure you know that this is NOT the only resource I have to make your life easier as a busy Latter-Day Saint. 💛 To easily see & have all my free Latter-Day Saint resources at your fingertips, follow me on Pinterest! Support the shop for free by following the Pinterest account or favoriting the shop. And if you are interested in making or looking into a purchase, you can check out this digital download packet here!
My daughter and her friends often walk into my craft room while I am working on my scripture journal. They ooh and ahhh and wish they had one too. So for Christmas I made my daughter her own coptic scripture journal that is available in the shop. But there was no way I was going to put the time in to make a bunch for h
Let’s do a quick recap of where we’ve been and where we’re headed so this whole 4-day spread makes a little more sense. We’re focusing on the different relationships we have…

I was called to head up the Stake YW Camp Activities Committee again this year. They still like me! I am serving with some incredible women and young women. I am so excited! :) * This is simply a collection of ideas had along the way of preparing for camp. After camp I will update the post with all the fun details. Now time for the sharing. :) ** YW Camp 2012 THEME The Stake YW Camp Committee chose the theme: "Burn Bright with His Light". (lighthouse/nautical) FYI - the logo is not one we are using for camp, I created it for use here. * SCRIPTURE Doctrine and Covenants 84:45,46 "For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ. And the Spirit giveth to every man that cometh into the world; and the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit." * DAILY THEMES MONDAY: "Sail Forward with Faith" (I added this one for myself) :) TUESDAY "Beacons of Light", John 2:10 WEDNESDAY: "Be a Crew Member", Moroni 7:45 THURSDAY: "Let Your Light Shine", Matthew 5: 14-16 FRIDAY: "Find Your True North", Moroni 10:4-5 SATURDAY: "Keep His Light Burning Bright", 2 Nephi 31: 16-21 * 100th ANNIVERSARY SERVICE PROJECT This year, 2012, marks the 100th year of Young Women Camp. There are some wonderful ideas on how to celebrate and some great YW Camp history shared here. * We as an activities committee decided we are going to commemorate this milestone by having the young women make 100 fleece baby blankets - while at camp - to donate to Children's Hospital and the Margery Mason Center, which are both located in our area. After camp we will invite our senior girls to deliver the blankets in behalf of all the young women from our stake. * * ACTIVITIES We will have both a zip-line and a rappel set-up for the week. Both are among the favorite activities up at camp. Archery will also be offered as one of the activities. "May the odds be ever in your favor." :) Last year our theme was Step-Up, based around different dance styles. One of our daily activities was morning Zumba! Both the Young Women and Leaders seemed to love it! During dinner, on the last night of camp (when all the Stake Leaders, Bishops and their spouses were visiting), there was a flash mob! The girls were on fire as they performed the Zumba routine they had learned and practiced during the week. It was quite the unifying experience. Our dance instructor, among others, were overcome with emotion. It was a great activity we will do again this year - hopefully with a nautical twist. :) * GAMES * We always have board games available, just in case there is rain. I am thinking these are good choices for this year's theme: * Battleship Board Game A classic! * Ocean Bingo I happen to have this one in my game closet. If you're interested in one for yourself, you can purchase it here. :) * MESSAGES IN A BOTTLE Friendship Notes/Secret Sisters/Love Notes... whatever you may call it. What is camp without notes left on pillows? This year to go along with the nautical theme we are calling it "Messages In A Bottle". We are going to have bottle shaped die-cuts available for everyone to write little notes to each other throughout the week of camp. * I was thinking we could have a large tin sitting just inside the craft cabin with everything the girls need to write their messages. A large tin bucket filled with sand, to place pens in - pens topped with sailboat sails. A smaller tin bucket, buried in the sand, to place the die-cut paper bottles in. For fun we could place in the sand an actual bottle with a rolled up message in it. I found this wine bottle template here. I thought it might be a good pattern for our bottles. Wide enough, giving more room for messages. free pdf download here. * ALL CAMP NIGHT ACTIVITY idea Each cabin to have their own anthem/song. One which inspires and goes along with the theme. This could be something the cabin counselors have their girls practice before camp - or possibly on their own with a CD. They could use the song as part of their nightly cabin devotionals. Here are a few song ideas: Hold Your Torches High, Jenny Phillips/Tyler Castleton - sheet music Like a Lighthouse, Michael Webb - download sheet music Lighthouse in the Night, Jenny Phillips - sheet music Light On A Hill, Jenny Phillips - YouTube music video The Lord Is My Light - Hymn #89 This Little Light of Mine - I love this version!
