Context is eradicated and reality shunned in this radical reading of Tennessee Williams’s family drama, saved only by impressive acting
Melting glass over a flame, the 19th-century Czech father-and-son team of Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka replicated in fragile detail specimens of the natural world.
Tennessee Williams has a knack for making me want to quote lines from his shows. These are the kinds of plays I can't wait to talk about for days after, and the current Denver Center Theatre Company's first-ever production of The Glass Menagerie exceeded each one of my expectations.

The epigraph that Tennessee Williams provided for his semi-autobiographical 1944 play “The Glass Menagerie” is the last line of a poem by e. e. cummings: “nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands.” That could be Tom Wingfield’s tribute to Laura, the sister he tries, in vain, to leave behind. Were Williams alive to see the new American Repertory Theater production, however, he might have turned to T. S. Eliot’s suggestion, in “Burnt Norton,” that “all time is eternally present.”
