This book explores the ecological concepts and ideas involved in the practice of habitat restoration by taking a theoretical approach that will appeal to ecologists concerned with the structure and dynamics of communities. The contributors examine aspects of this new realization and its implications for both ecology and the practice of habitat restoration. What emerges is the outline of a new paradigm for ecological research and the basis for a stronger relationship between theory and practice in this area.

In this resource you will find 32 concepts on the subject of Ecosystems & Habitats Teaching elementary school students about ecosystems and animal habitats is like opening a door to a world of interconnectedness and wonder. Ecosystems are like nature's neighborhoods, where animals, plants, and their surroundings work together in harmony. It's a chance to introduce young minds to the intricate web of life on Earth, from the lush rainforests to the chilly Arctic tundras. By exploring animal habitats within these ecosystems, we can help students understand how different creatures have found their perfect homes, each uniquely adapted to their surroundings. It's not just about learning facts; it's about nurturing a sense of responsibility towards preserving these habitats and the incredible diversity of life they support. By teaching about ecosystems and animal habitats, we're empowering our students to become future caretakers of our planet, ensuring that these natural wonders continue to thrive for generations to come. *For each concept you will find 4 cards: the concept, the explanation, a picture and a riddle. What are concept cards? Science concept Cards are a valuable tool for teachers. These cards are designed to provide clear and concise definitions of important science terms and concepts, along with images and that illustrate each concept. They can be used to introduce new vocabulary words to students, as well as to review previously learned words. By using Science Vocabulary Cards, students can improve their science literacy and deepen their understanding of key science concepts. For maximum engagement and fun I added a riddle for each concept Science riddles are a fun way to challenge students' knowledge of science concepts and vocabulary. How to use the cards: Introduce new vocabulary Reinforce learning Encourage independent learning: Matching game Go fish Memory game Charades Pictionary Checkout MY STORE for more great resources and FOLLOW ME for more deals to come!! Deforestation will cost the Earth an India-sized patch of forest by mid-century––a crippling blow to the climate––but carbon pricing could halve the loss, according to a new study. What is Project Based Learning?: Project Based Learning is a method of teaching where students have a question or topic that relates to the curriculum that they work on for an extended period of time in an engaging, creative, and experimental manner and respond to the question through a challenge. The difference between PBL and creating a project is that projects are created AFTER learning and PBL allows students to learn through the entire process and toward a goal of answering a challenge or question. The project is focused on student’s learning goals and curriculum using creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and self-management. The best part about PBL is that it is brings a lot of learning subjects together in one project, allowing students to spend a lot of time on their PBL while meeting many aspects of the curriculum all at once. How To Use: -In this product you will see Lesson Plans and Student Worksheets alternate as you scroll through the PDF. The lesson plans will act as guidelines for you on how to implement the student worksheet and will present you with materials needed and insight into the student’s assignment. Note, for this PBL project you will need to allow your students access to a variety of information and technologies (such as computers/internet) to allow them to do their personal investigations. -Photocopy any necessary student handouts such as step-by-steps or rubrics. Students research and create a presentation about a material natural resource of their choice. Students investigate: -the resource and what it is made up of -how the resource forms -where the resource is distributed around the world -why it is distributed that way -uses of the resource -the harvesting process and its consequences related to the environment Included in this file is: -project outline and note-taking guide -peer evaluation form -link to Google slide template for student presentations -grading rubric -teacher notes -suggested research resources This project was originally designed for use in my 6th grade science classroom. Before assigning the project, we learn about different types of resources (material and energy) (renewable and nonrenewable) and analyze a map of some common resources found around the world, and how they are distributed. I typically spend a little over a week dedicated to working on this project (60 minute class periods). The materials provided should give you flexibility as far as how much time you would like to spend working on this project in your own classroom. **Sept 2021 Update: The link the the original student template is no longer working, and I unfortunately no longer have access to the original, editable file. This is a project I created for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Students worked in groups of 3-4 to create a diorama representing a habitat. This set includes: -Anchor chart listing six animal habitats -Diorama assignment sheet -Planning sheet for groups as they research their habitats -Sheet to sketch plan for diorama -Writing assignment sheet -Diorama rubric -Writing rubric **There are more than 6 habitats and you could easily add more to your students' choices. I found the most resources for the 6 habitats that I listed. (BrainPOPJr has videos for these 6 habitats well).
